  • August 3, 2017 - New York City, New York, United States of America - During a public “Ivory Crush” organized by the Department of Environmental Commission (DEC), the Wildlife Conservation Society, Tiffany & Co., and environmental groups, such as 96 Elephants (the estimated number of elephants slaughtered daily), some two tons of confiscated Ivory, with a value of $8.5 million USD was crushed in NYC’s Central Park. Despite this, New York City is the nation's largest port of entry for illegal wildlife goods, according to state officials..Investigative Lieutenant Jesse Paluch of the NYS DEC Department of Environmental Crimes Investigations adds that what was crushed today “was the culmination of three years of investigations and the execution of 12 search warrants”. He further adds “we want to show that the ivory on the animal is priceless, but worthless in this form as a consumer good”. Mary Dixon of WCS says “we would like to send a message to poachers and anyone involved in the illegal ivory trade that we will no longer tolerate this”. WCS works in 60 countries worldwide and works to stop animal trafficking. Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac was among the guests in attendance. (Credit Image: © Sachelle Babbar via ZUMA Wire)

  • Indian doctors were at their wit’s end after excising as many as 500 teeth from a seven-year-old’s palate in Chennai, India. The young patient was only three when his lower right jaw started to swell up but was left undiagnosed for four years as his parents lacked the right knowledge. The doctors diagnosed it to be a rare case of "compound composite ondontome", the boy was brought to the hospital with a swelling in his lower right jaw. "Later as swelling increased, the parents brought the boy to our hospital," said P.Senthilnathan, Professor -Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at at the Saveetha Dental College and Hospital on Wednesday. According to the doctors, the patient's family was worried that the swelling was carcinogenic. An X-ray and CT-scan of the boy's lower right jaw showed a lot of rudimentary teeth following which the doctors decided on the surgery. A team of doctors operated on the boy for five-long hours and successfully removed 526 teeth-like structures from his mouth. "We opened up the jaw after administering general anaesthesia and saw a bag/sack inside it. The sack, weighing about 200 grams, was carefully removed and was later found to contain 526 teeth -- small, medium and big sized,” said Dr Senthilnathan. Dr. Pratibha Ramani, Professor and Head of Department of oral and maxillofacial pathology, said, “Social consciousness on emerging environmental hazards is imperative. Every tissue information is patient’s right, surgical decision making is the key and final diagnostic expert is the pathologist.” According to the doctors, this is the first ever case documented in the world in which in an individual has been found to have so many minute teeth. Though some were very tiny particles, the doctors said, they had the properties of teeth. It took five long hours for the doctors to remove all the minute teeth from the sack. • A new automatic passenger drone that could revolutionize the daily commute has completed its first manned flight. California-based company Passenger Drone launched the red aerial vehicle, which has a top speed of 45mph, following months of rigorous testing. Complete with a touch-screen, the drone can be flown manually or at the touch of a button select a destination and the air vehicle takes over. It carries up to two people, is equipped with 16 electric engines and has a flight range of up to 25 minutes. Flight testing of the vertical take off and landing (VTOL) craft started in May before the first manned flight took place in August, footage of which was released this week as part of the official launch. A company spokesman explained: “The social and economic benefits of such a vehicle are numerous. “In cities around the world, traffic congestion costs commuters millions of hours every year and billions of dollars in lost productivity.” According to Passenger Drone, the average travel time to work in the United States is 25.4 minute, representing almost an hour every day. The company adds that the total cost of congestion to all drivers in the U.S. in 2016, including environmental costs, was $300 billion. The spokesman added: “On-demand aviation and manned drones has the potential to radically transform how we get from place to place, and to restore precious lost family and personal time to commuters worldwide. “Overall, the lower cost and improved flexibility provided by aerial drone technology may afford compelling solutions for individuals, businesses or governments worldwide.”. 03 Oct 2017 Pictured: California-based company Passenger Drone has launched a new automatic aerial vehicle that could revolutionize the daily commute. • *PREMIUM EXCLUSIVE* Prince Harry, wife Meghan and baby Archie leave the South of France after a three-day family holiday at Sir Elton John’s stunning Pounds 15 million summer ‘palace.’ The Royal couple have come under heavy criticism and been accused of hypocrisy for using private jets three times in the space of eights days for jaunts around Europe while purporting to be ‘eco warriors.’ The flights are estimated to have emitted at least six times more carbon dioxide per person than a scheduled flight. After jetting into Nice Airport on Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess and baby Archie were whisked off in a Mercedes limousine, with police protection, to Sir Elton’s stunning French Riviera villa, Castel Mont-Alban. Considered a summer home by the Rocket Man singer, the sunbeam-yellow hilltop villa boasts commanding views of the Mediterranean from the overlooking tower room. It is high above Nice, with views across the bay and to the Alps and has been used by celebrity pals of Sir Elton, including David and Victoria Beckham. It was originally built in the 1920s as an artists colony. With the help of a team of designers, Elton redesigned the interior to be beautifully and extravagantly decorated in his own flamboyant style, complete with Andy Warhol originals adoring the walls. The villa is so huge it can be seen from across the entire bay. Just three days later, early on Saturday (Aug 17) afternoon, the Royal couple again left Nice Airport on the same private plane, and are believed to have flown back to the UK. Meghan wore a crisp white shirt and matching white trousers as she boarded the 12-seater Cessna aircraft carefully clutching three-month-old Archie Mountbatten-Windsor closely to her chest. Harry, wearing a white polo, jeans, and brown chukka boots, climbed the steps a few moments later, before the plane left for its likely return journey to Farnborough airfield in Hampshire. It was the third time in just over a week that Harry has used a private jet
