Ground-breaking antiquity specialists Merlin Burrows believe the ruins of the legendary civilization can be found in modern-day southern Spain. The exact location is somewhere north of the city of Cadiz, Andalucía, centred around the Doñana National Park, which the UK historians believe was once a vast inland sea. And they claim from the park south and north there is further evidence of the ancient civilisation, with 15 other settlements dotted along the coastline. Atlantis was recorded in the writings of Greek philosopher Plato who lived around 400BC. He described an advanced island civilization that ruled a vast maritime empire, some 9,000 years before his own era. The city of Atlantis at the centre of this empire was described as having, among other features, an enormous harbour wall, huge entrance pillars, a temple to the god Poseidon and massive circular pieces of land carved out by the Atlanteans to live on. It is thought a cataclysmic natural disaster, such as a tsunami or volcanic event, eventually wiped out the Atlanteans, consigning their legacy to legend. But now using unique satellite investigation techniques, aerial photography and ground observations of the site, British experts believe they have found all the features of Atlantis Plato described and evidence of how they were destroyed. Although some scholars believe Atlantis to be a myth, Merlin Burrows claim their discoveries will once and for all prove the lost civilization existed. The Sala Malaka is a space of the unique Phoenician culture, which houses more than 100 votive figures.   • August 8, 2017 - inconnu - Upturned roofs which collect rain could help with water supplies in arid Third World countries and remote communities.The roofs are able to capture and preserve rainfall , however small, instead of letting it run away.It is designed to help rain-drops merge into larger globules making it harder for it to be evaporate under scorching sunshine.A team from Iranian architecture company BMDeign Studios worked on the design for environments with precipitation of less than one third of the rest of the world and evaporation more than three times the average.The concave roof looks like a bowl with very steep slopes. It sits on a base which is dome-shaped.The bowl provides additional shade for the domed area while letting the air move freely to cool both the bowl and roof base off. The studio believes that a roof like this will help make even the smallest quantities of rain to flow off the roof and eventually coalesce into bigger drops just right for harvesting before they evaporate. It calculated that rainfall of just 5mm on a concave roof area of 923 square metres would collect 28.75 cubic metres of waterThe firm created the idea for a school design competition on Iran where 65 percent of the country has an arid or hyper arid climate.It calculated the unique design should be able to collect around 60 percent of rainwater in dry-lands on the Iranian plateau where the school is located.Rainwater reservoirs are placed inside the walls of the buildings.This would also help with cooling the classrooms saving on the carbon footprint.Date palms provide shade for the concave roof.A spokesman said that while the water needed for the school exceeded the amount of rainwater harvested, the key point was maximizing the efficiency of the system.
