  • October 1, 2018 - Banks, shops and businesses remain close during a general strike against the ‘Jewish Nation-State Law’ in Gaza City on October 1, 2018. The Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as Palestinian towns inside Israel have held a day of general strike in protest of the recently passed Jewish nation state law in Israel. The strike was called for by Palestinian national and Islamic factions in coordination with the High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens in Israel, who condemn the legislation on the basis that it enshrines inequality among Israel citizens and turns non-Jews citizens in Israel into second-class citizens. The strike was also to protest the Israeli high court order for the residents of the Bedouin village of Khan Al-Ahmar to evacuate their village voluntarily or to face demolition and forced displacement.
