$Police investigating the alleged attack on Empire star Jussie Smollett have released images from surveillance footage of two persons of interest. The stills show two people “who were in area of the alleged assault and battery” of the actor, a Chicago police spokesman said. Smollett, 35, was attacked at around 2am on Tuesday (29 January) in the upscale downtown Chicago neighborhood of Streeterville. He said he was attacked by two white men in ski masks, who hurled racial and homophobic abuse at him, poured an ‘unknown chemical substance’ over him which was previously reported as bleach and put a noose around his neck. The assailants also are said to have shouted 'this is MAGA country’ during the attack on the actor — who is black and gay and plays gay character Jamal Lyon on Fox drama Empire — in reference to Donald Trump’s slogan “Make America Great Again”.
