  • June 26, 2017 - Thessaloniki, Greece - 10.000 short contract municipal workers are protesting with a continuous strikes for more than a week, leaving the whole country's garbage on the street demanding the extension of their contract. Authorities asked people to keep their trash at home as there are issues with public health due to the increased high temperature as the country is facing a heatwave. Municipality of Thessaloniki is trying to resolve the situation by turning to the private sector, a move that is against the will of the municipal labour unions. In Thessaloniki tourists avoid the main squares and popular streets as the smell and the view of the city is disgusting. (Credit Image: © Nicolas Economou/NurPhoto via ZUMA Press)

  • EXCLUSIVE: *NO WEB UNTIL 11PM BST SEPT 2ND* The dramatic moment British ‘drugs baron’ Andrew Deamer is arrested in Colombia for allegedly smuggling cocaine worth £345 million hidden in DOG FOOD. Deamer, 52, now faces 14 years in a Colombian prison after being seized in a dramatic 6am raid on his isolated home outside Medellin - the city made infamous by infamous cartel boss Pablo Escobar. The Brit is now in Bogota’s infamous La Picota prison after signing a ‘pre-agreement’ to accept a sentence of 14 years and eight months in return for co-operating with authorities to "name names.' Deamer, originally from Barrow upon Soar, Leics, ran a syndicate that converted at least 2.5 tons of cocaine into a substance that resembled dog food, down to the look, smell and texture, say Colombian authorities. He was snared by anti-narcotics agents backed up by Colombian army and navy troops. Deamer is seen climbing down from his attic bolt-hole after being busted in a dramatic 6am raid by Colombian forces. Wearing shorts and T-shirt, he had darted into the secret hideaway after realising anti-narcotics agents and army and navy troops were closing in on his remote farmhouse. His capture was videoed by The Fiscalia, Colombia’s Office of the Attorney General. Deamer, who also spent time living in Florida, is said to have recruited specialist chemists for the cocaine transformation and they followed the shipments to Europe to extract the cocaine at the destinations. His second wife, Colombian Marcela Zapata, 37, was arrested with him. 02 Sep 2018 Pictured: Arrest of Andrew Deamer. Photo credit: Greg Woodfield / MEGA TheMegaAgency.com +1 888 505 6342

  • In a land as parched as Kenya's Tsavo West National Park, no visitor arrives with more fanfare than the water man...That would be Patrick Kilonzo Mwalua. And when he rumbles down the dusty road bearing some 3,000 gallons of fresh water, the elephants, buffalo, antelope and zebras come running...They've come to know the water man by the rumble of his engine. And his lifesaving cargo. ''There is completely no water, so the animals are depending on humans,'' Mwalua said,. ''If we don't help them, they will die.'' Mwalua fills the bone-dry watering holes in the region, driving for hours on end every day to haul water to where it's most desperately needed...The holes themselves, lined with concrete, often need cleaning — Mwalua blames it on buffalo droppings — and sometimes, he will just hose down an area of cracked earth for the grateful animals...''The buffalo roll in the mud so they suffocate the fleas and ticks,'' he says. Many animals don't even wait that long, fearlessly crowding the truck as Mwalua cranks the tap...''Last night, I found 500 buffalo waiting at the water hole,'' he says. ''When I arrived they could smell the water. The buffalo were so keen and coming close to us...''They started drinking water while I was standing there. They get so excited.'' Mwalua, who is a pea farmer in his local village, came up with the idea after seeing firsthand the grim toll climate change has taken in his native land. In the last year especially, he says, the area has seen precious little precipitation, leaving animals to die of thirst in these cracked lands...''We aren't really receiving rain the way we used to,'' he says. ''From last year, from June, there was no rain completely. So I started giving animals water because I thought, 'If I don't do that, they will die.''' Between road trips, Mwalua runs a conservation project called Tsavo Volunteers. The 41-year-old also visits local schools to talk to children about the wildlife that is their legacy...''I wa

The cub is the first polar bear to be born in the UK for 25 years and is now starting to explore the outdoor enclosure at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park. In the video the mother Victoria is seen walking out of the maternity den first, before her precious little cub emerges behind her keeping close to his mother. The pair are then seen foraging around in the grassy outdoor enclosure, which was witnesses by visitors at the park for the first time this week [21 March, 2018]. Previously the polar bear enclosure had been closed to the public to allow the bears the privacy required in the early weeks after birth. Una Richardson, head keeper at the RZSS Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig near Kingussie, said, “Having spent four months in her maternity den, Victoria quickly took the chance to go outside. “Understandably, her cub has been more cautious and is still getting used to new sights, smells and sounds.” Douglas Richardson, the park’s head of living collections, said, “Our pioneering captive polar bear management programme closely mirrors what happens in the wild and this birth shows our approach is working. “This is vital because a healthy and robust captive population may one day be needed to augment numbers in the wild, such are the threats to the species from climate change and human pressures. “The reintroduction of polar bears would be an enormous task but we need to have the option. While our cub will never be in the wild, there is a chance its offspring may be in decades to come.” The birth of the cub and journey so far is also being filmed for a forthcoming Channel 4 documentary. 23 Mar 2018 Pictured: A polar bear and her cub — the first to be born in the UK in 25 years - are seen emerging from their maternity den at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s High

  • Jun 5, 2017 - Hohenfels, Bayern, Germany - A visit to a local cafe is a boost for the human spirit, whether lured in by the ambiance, maybe to enjoy the camaraderie of friends, or enticed by savory smells and craving a bite to eat from the kitchen. It's a familiar, busy space where communal goals are simple, satisfaction is expected and needs are easily met. The comforting, busy environment serves as a perfect cloak for a two-man sniper team hidden in a bar service kitchen, strategically in line with targets in a neighboring building. A hand-woven lace curtain barely moves as the target is neutralized. Building hidden sites is one of the many skills sniper teams practiced during the 11-day International Special Training Center's Urban Sniper Course at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center's training area here. Enabled by Special Operations Command Europe, and supported by JMRC's Wolverine Special Operations Forces Observer Coach/Trainer Team, 12 sniper teams from multiple NATO special operations forces participated in the course May 19-30. The course instructors were assigned to the 7th Army Training Command. • A polar bear and her four-month-old cub are seen here leaving the maternity den and venturing into the outdoors in an impossibly cute video.
