  • EXCLUSIVE: A Great Dane who didn’t like cats has stopped a kitten going blind by donating blood used in sight-saving eye drops. Huge dog Harlie, who weighs around nine stone, put her best paw forward to give blood used to treat Zephyr the rescued kitten. Vets treated eight-week-old Zephyr with serum drops which used elements of Harlie’s blood after it has been separated using a centrifuge. The liquid part of the blood is made into drops which help the surface of the eye to heal and stop the tissue breaking down. Rescuers feared the worst for Zephyr but her sight has now been saved thanks to her huge donor friend Harlie. Steph Taylor, from charity Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary, said Zephyr was found with three siblings under a shed in Liverpool, England. She said: “They were all full of flu which had led to secondary pneumonia, horrific conjunctivitis with ulcerated eyes, ticks, severe flea infestation leading to anaemia and dehydration. “The serum from Harlie was fairly unusual for us to use and we have never done it before, there are several types of conventional medicated drops and we used these first but as Zephyr was not responding to these, our vet suggested it. “We had heard of it once before when another rescue spoke about it and they had amazing results. “We have four dogs at our HQ but sadly none were suitable blood donors due to their size, age or health problems so we had to turn to the public for help… and along came Harlie.” Harlie’s owner Jess said she wanted to help but at first she feared Harlie wasn’t used to cats and it might not be a good idea for her to meet Zephyr in person. Jess, 30, a foster carer from Liverpool, England, said meeting Zephyr was the first time her huge hound had met a feline in person. Jess, who has three other dogs, a Staffordshire bull terrier, and two shih tzu Yorkshire terriers, said she wanted to help after seeing an appeal for blood donors to produce the serum used for the eye drops. She said: “We were

  • EXCLUSIVE: A 10-year-old girl suffering from a rare skin disorder is gradually turning into a stone. Scutes shaped as barks -- caused due to mutation of genes -- have spread all over her body. Rajeshwari, hailing from a tribal area in Dantewada district of north Indian state of Chhattisgarh suffers from a case of ichthyosis that causes reddening, scaling and severe blistering of the skin. The incurable disease affects the process of skin regeneration in the human body, making it hard and flaky. Visuals show a heart-wrenching sight of Rajeshwari sitting under a thatched hut with blisters almost covering her whole body. Though the disease doesn't pose any risk to her life, it has made a life 'a living hell'. The disease hinders her daily life, making even simple activities such as walking and sitting very painful. According to reports, the rare genetic condition affects very few people and till now only two dozen cases have been reported in the world. The rarity of the case makes research difficult and the medicine to control the incurable disease has severe side effects. For people residing in the Naxal infested area, availing simple health care is already a mean feat and Rajeshwari's condition requires her to travel to a big city which is difficult for the time being. when doctors were shown the patient's case file, few of them came forward to express their opinions and diagnosis. Speaking about her condition, Dr.Satyaki Ganguly, Associate Professor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), Raipur, said “ The medical term for this genetic disorder is Ichthyosis Psoriasis and due to very few cases in India, there has not been any major breakthrough in terms of research. Currently, science has no cure for this ailment.” Another dermatologist has another take on Rajeshwari’s case, Dr.Yash Upender from Dantewada Hospital believes that the girl suffers from Epidermolytic Ichthyosis which is not a life threatening disease but is still uncurable. • Meet the mother duck who every year gives birth to her chicks in a hospital before parading them down the hallways. Once a year, every year, the patients at the continuing care unit of the University of Rochester's Thompson Health hospital, in Canandaigua, New York, are treated to this adorable sight. The local duck returns every spring to the same courtyard in the middle of the hospital to lay her eggs. Amazingly, the cunning bird has even learned to knock on the doors to be allowed into the building to get to her favorite nesting spot. Then without fail, once her chicks have hatched, she marches them through the hospital back to the surrounding woodland. To the delight of the patients, the little ducks can be seen following their mom throughout the hospital’s hallways, out the door, and into a grassy area behind the facility. The duck follows the same path every year, and facility services staff use old signage to guide her and the ducklings through the halls gently. Amazingly, despite it being an annual occurrence, this is the first time staff has attempted to document the adorable "rite of spring". A statement released by care staff said: “Every year, without fail, a mama duck chooses one of the enclosed courtyards at our M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center to lay her eggs and take care of her babies. She lets us know when she’s ready to go by tapping on the glass, and this morning, it was time for this annual rite of spring.”. 21 May 2019 Pictured: Adorable mother duckling walks her chicks through a New York hospital every year. • EXCLUSIVE: This grotesque creature has been dubbed a ‘porkey’ by islanders in Barbados after it was born resembling a cross between a pig and a monkey. Pig farmer Daphne Boyce said she was left shocked at the sight which confronted her when she went to check on her sow, which had just given birth to 12 piglets. “One of the piglets was acting strange and not mixing with the others,” said 75-year-old Daphne. “I prodded it with a stick to try to turn it over because it was keeping on one side. When it turned over, I said ‘No! This got to be a monkey face.’ "I called my brother and I said, ‘Roger, Roger, this pig looks like a monkey.’" Mrs Boyce is convinced one of the wild Green Monkeys that roams the area must have had its way with her pregnant sow. “I don’t see any other explanation,” she said. Mrs Boyce said the creatures eyes were close to the forehead 'like a monkey’s,' while it had 'one pig ear and one monkey’s ear.' “It didn’t have a snout but a mouth just like a monkey,” she said. Mrs Boyce’s brother, Roger Feliciano, who took photos of the strange-looking creature with his cellphone, said he tried to feed it milk with a baby bottle, but was not successful. The animal died after four days. Mrs Boyce said she could not stop the monkeys from “monkeying around” with her pigs since they were rampant in her neighbourhood. “They all up on the roof,” she added. "I got a mango tree there and they eat all the mangoes. When people ask me why I don’t have any mangoes in the tree, I tell them the tree belong to the monkeys.” Mrs Boyce said this was not the first time monkeys had dabbled with other animals on the Caribbean island. She recalled one of her friends having a 'monkey sheep' a few years ago. The green monkeys found in Barbados originally came from Senegal and the Gambia in West Africa approximately 350 years ago. 27 May 2018 Pictured: Porkey. TMZ obtained this shot of Kanye out for a stroll with a friend on a remote hillside road near Jackson Hole. This pic was taken Friday morning by a passerby. Probably not a common sight in them parts -- world-famous rappers on the roadside and all. While he was getting back to mother nature, you can see his security was keeping a very close eye ... trailing in an SUV. It was clearly a refreshing outing for Ye, who tweeted about it the next day. As we first reported, Kanye went back to his fave Wyoming resort to put the finishing touches on new music he's about to release. Kanye West, not all that different from your average Playmate.
