  • File photo dated July 8, 2010 of a tobacco shop.? A French study found that only 4.4% of 350 coronavirus patients hospitalized were regular smokers and 5.3% of 130 homebound patients smoked. This pales in comparison with at least 25% of the French population that smokes. Researchers theorized nicotine could prevent the virus from infecting cells or that nicotine was preventing the immune system from overreacting to the virus. To test this theory, hospitalized coronavirus patients, intensive care patients and frontline workers nicotine patches. Photo by ANDBZ/ABACAPRESS.COM

  • EXCLUSIVE: ***NO WEB UNTIL 2PM EST NOV 1*** Katie Holmes wears a diamond engagement ring as she steps out for a coffee, but it seems she’s not engaged to long-time boyfriend Jamie Foxx. A smiling Holmes looked relaxed and radiant as she openly flashed her bling as she went for a coffee with fellow actor Jerry O'Connell. Katie and Jerry co-star in a feature-film adaptation of the self-help best-seller ‘The Secret.' The pictures were taken the day before filming started in New Orleans. But her publicist later insisted: “Katie’s not engaged to anyone besides her fictional movie fiancé, played by Jerry O’Connell.” Holmes, who divorced ‘Top Gun’ star Tom Cruise in 2012, was later spotted chatting happily with Foxx, who she’s believed to have been dating for five years. Foxx is currently also in New Orleans filming his latest movie, ‘Power,’ co-starring Joseph Gordon-Hewitt. Foxx and Dawson’s Creek alum Holmes looked very much in love - the word ‘LOVE’ was even written on Katie's handbag. Holmes had changed into a black and white jumpsuit before the two went for a evening shop at Michael's craft store - but the actress kept her hands firmly buried in her pockets, so it’s not known if she was still wearing the ‘prop’ ring. Foxx, 50, and Holmes, 39, went pubslic in April during a PDA-packed beach outing on a Malibu beach after shying away from getting cozy together in public for years. The very private couple have reportedly been dating since being spotted dancing together at the Hamptons a year after the Dawson Creek star's highly-publicised separation from Cruise. They have taken extraordinary measures to keep their relationship secret amid claims Katie's ex-husband included a clause in her 2012 divorce settlement banning her from publicly dating for five years. The actress split from Top Gun superstar in 2012 after six years. Their romance was one the Hollywood's biggest headline makers after they got engaged in 2005 after just seven we

  • EXCLUSIVE: Boy with webbed fingers, toes treated like a pariah in the neighborhood and at school, poor parents pin hope on crowdfunding to get their child treated By Sanjay Pandey in India Twelve-year-old Mannu Kumar is treated like a pariah in his neighborhood and at school because of his appearance. Mannu, standard III student, cannot run around like a regular boy of his age. He can't use hands for eating or any other purpose, nor can he wear shoes or slippers. Mannu suffers from Syndactyly, a rare genetic condition, because of which his hands and feet are fused-like. The disease causes abnormal fusion of hands and feet. The rare condition only affects one in 10 lakh people. Mannu, who hails from the Koderma of the east Indian state of Jharkhand, is the eldest child of Anand Kumar, a small-time grocery shop owner, and Rani Devi, a housewife. Mannu also has one sister and the medical expenses of his condition are quite a burden on the family. His parents have spent a fortune on his treatment in the last two years. They have sold family property and jewelry to arrange funds for the boy's medication and diagnosis. Since his parents are uneducated they couldn't pick on the early signs of the disease and his diagnosis was made only this year in July. Now it is in an advanced stage and doctors have told them that it would take at least Rs 10 lakh for reconstructing Mannu’s hands and feet. Doctors informed the parents that the estimated cost of treatment, including neuro and plastic surgery procedures, would come to approximately Rs 10 lakh. Moreover, the family would have to shell out Rs 5 lakh for the treatment process to begin. Since the family has already exhausted all their resources in the last two years, on the boy's medication, they have started a fundraiser to raise money for his further treatment. His mother Devi said: ‘It is the curse of the God that my son was born like this and I am worried about his future. ‘I’m afraid he might struggle to lead a no

  • March 29, 2019 - Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Workers put the finishing touches on the exterior of the Hunny Pot legal cannabis retail store on Queen Street West in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on March 29, 2019. With the April 1st provincially-imposed deadline for Ontario's 25 legal retail pot shops to open their doors to consumers, it seems that the majority of Toronto's legalized weed shops will not meet the deadline. So far the Hunny Pot is the only licensed cannabis retail store to confirm they will be opening by April 1. Cannabis stores that do not manage to open by April 1 run the risk of facing steep fines from the provincial government. (Credit Image: © Creative Touch Imaging Ltd/NurPhoto via ZUMA Press)
