  • Movie icon Marilyn Monroe’s last home is on the market for $6.9 million. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house is set in the luxurious Brentwood neighborhood of LA and is described as an “authentic 1929 Hacienda”. With its swimming pool, citrus grove and guest home, the 2,624-square-foot property is steeped in Hollywood glamour. Listing agent Lisa Optican of Mercer Vine said of the estate, which is located on 5th Helena Drive: “When you walk the house and grounds, you’re immediately struck by its serenity and warmth. “It’s an absolute oasis in the heart of one of the best neighborhoods in Los Angeles.” Monroe bought the home for $75,000, shortly before her death in 1962 aged 36. According to a report in The Los Angeles Times at the time, the starlet was found dead in a bedroom of the home lying face down with a telephone receiver in her hand. The Some Like It Hot star talked about the home - which last sold for $5.1 million in November 2012 - in a 1962 with Life Magazine, which was accompanied by a photoshoot inside. "Anybody who likes my house, I’m sure I’ll get along with," she told the publication’s then-associate editor Richard Meryman. In Meryman’s essay about the interview, published just months before Monroe’s death, he described the house as “a small, three-bedroom house built in Mexican style,” adding that it was “the first home entirely her own she had ever had." "She exulted in it,” he went on. “On a special trip to Mexico she had carefully searched in roadside stands and shops and even factories to find just the right things to put in it. The large items had not arrived - nor was she ever to see them installed.”. 25 Apr 2017 Pictured: A view of the garden, complete with terracotta paving. He went absolutely berserk.” The jobless squatter has admitted smashing windows at the house, but bizarrely claimed he was doing home improvements, saying: “I was renovating. I was changing things around. I can ask when it’ll be done and let you know. It’s all right, it is all in hand.” At least nine shattered balcony door panes and three damaged fan lights could be seen from the street, at the house which overlooks Regent’s Park. Last year it emerged that George, who died on Christmas Day 2016, had left nothing for on-off lover Fadi in his £96.7million will. 13 Jul 2019 Pictured: Fadi Fawaz. Fawaz, 45, broke a number of windows at the central London home where he has been squatting since the singer’s death. A workman at a nearby property said: “There was glass flying everywhere. • June 27, 2009 - Orange River, South Africa - PRINCE HARRY and CHELSY DAVY vacationing on the Orange River. While last month's tabloids were speculating that Harry and Chelsy were over for good, snaps from the couple's recent Zambian holiday showed them as happy as they were on the Orange River in November 2006. On that four-day, 60 km canoe adventure, as these never before published photos show, it looked like the couple are destined to be together forever. Out there on the river that snakes through a remote, unforgiving desert landscape on South African's Namibian border, Harry and Chelsy paddled and partied with a group of her closest friends. He let his hair down enough to try snorting rum out of a bottle top. And in those long hours alone in a canoe with Chelsy, he was simply the bloke she fell in love with two years earlier; the romantic who would later write, ''You are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. You must have been the big man upstairs' first creation!! The Orange River undoubtedly left an indelible impression on the young prince who, a few weeks later, revealed to a friend that he was mourning Africa and his girl like crazy. ''Of ALL the things in the world right now that I wanna be doing,'' he wrote, ''being with my girl anywhere in Africa would top absolutely everything. Drifting underneath the blue carpet, talking shit to each other without a single person, soul or noise for miles and miles! Then as the sun goes to rest and turns the sky orange, to be snuggled up in a bed roll, under the stars, with all the time in the world to do whatever the fuck we wanted!'' Thomas House normally provides programs through which people living on the streets can work in exchange for tokens that they can use for meals, ID books, clothing, toiletries and showers. But during lockdown, the centre has had to suspend its activities to simply serve meals to those who are hungry. Loughton, who also runs a bakery business, says things are uncertain. "Everything is unsettled right now. ... When we go back to work, it's going to be a bit like starting the business all over again," he says. The same thing is true at the centre, he adds. • June 27, 2017 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany - Ahead of the Bundestag elections in roughly three months on September 24th, a podium discussion was organized and aimed at young voters so they may have a chance to be closer to the candidates and discuss issues with them directly. The event was organized as part of a cooperation between the Muenchen Volkshochschule (MVHS) and Bayerischer Rundfunk’s Puls. A point of controversy was the invitation of the AfD’s Petr Bystron, who is now under Verfassungsschutz (secret service) monitoring due to right-radical ties and connections to the ultra-radical Identitaere Bewegung. Furthermore, Bystron has been documented in the past with right-radicals, such as militant American Rick W. and violent neo-nazi Lukas Bals, with whom he intimidated opposition and journalists. .A source has verified that the other candidates were informed of them sharing a stage with a known right-radical, however the other candidates all voiced opposition, but refused to cancel their appearances together for fear they would be the only ones to do so, giving an advantage to other candidates..The AfD party has had numerous controversies as of late, most stemming from associations and leanings with the far- and radical right. Most recently, another AfD politician, Andre Poggenburg, was found as a participant in a leaked WhatsApp chat group saying such things as the neo-nazi slogan “Deutschland den Deutschen” (“Germany only for Germans”). Further messages included “after the [AfD] seizing of power, all journalists should be investigated and sifted out” (“nach der Machtuebernahme alle Journalisten ueberpruefen und sieben”). Poggenburg belongs to Bjoern Hoecke’s radical/nationalist/neo-nazi wing of the AfD..In March, Petr Bystron made the following statement, which, among other incidents, led to his monitoring by the Verfassungsschutz:.“Die Identitaere Bewegung ist eine Vorfeldorga

  • August 21, 2017 - inconnu - Blind and visually impaired people could soon be wearing clever fashion accessories that map out their surroundings.Although designed to look like modern jewellery, the Maptic enables the wearer to make a mental chart of the world around them. The pieces vibrate hat vibrate to guide visually impaired wearers to a destinationInventor Emilios Farrington-Arnas has now won a prestigious James Dyson scholarship to develop the idea. The set comprises a visual sensor that can be worn like a necklace, and a series of feedback units that can be clipped onto clothing, or worn around the wrist. The sensor connects to a voice-controlled iPhone app, so it can use GPS to direct the wearer. It does this through a series of vibrations to the left or right side of the body.Unlike other aids, Maptic can track and respond to obstacles at chest level and higher. It doesn't require the user to have headphones in to listen to directions – like other systems, so users aren't distracted from surrounding environmental noise.Users wear matgching feedback units on both hands. They act as a navigator, telling users when to move forward or turn, based on vibration cues. Farrington-Arnas, a graduate of London’s Brunel University, said his family has a history of poor eyesight, which is one of the reasons he embarked on this project. His experience taught him that one of the most important things to combat in a project like this is the stigma that surrounds the use of assistive devices. As a result, each Maptic device can be worn unobtrusively, and can also be personalised. He told Dezeen design magazine: ''A major issue that visually impaired people raised is that assistive products tend to look overly medical, or just plain ugly.''I tried to solve this with a form that could be mistaken as a fitness tracker or similar, and allows user personalisation of the colours and finishes.''The pendant comes with indoor and outdoor settings, working in short and long ran
