  • EXCLUSIVE: FULL COPY ON REQUEST: Sir Richard Branson’s new cruise ship Scarlet Lady sits forlornly at dock in Miami along with four other giant liners yesterday (Sunday) as the usually heaving terminals resembled ghost towns because of the coronavirus crisis. Miami is the world’s busiest cruise port with 5.5million passengers a year. But yesterday at 4pm – when ships traditionally sail amid fanfare and horns blasting their farewell – there was an eerie silence. The Florida cruise port is usually bustling with excited passengers, truck and van deliveries of food and drink, rammed parking lots and packed lines of taxis in a cacophony of noise and mayhem. Yet yesterday there was hardly a soul about. The parking garages were virtually empty, the usually crammed individual terminals were lifeless and the roads were deserted. Apart from a handful of departing passengers only a few dejected port workers, who are about to be laid off, were milling around. One of the ships at dock in Miami yesterday (March 15) is at the center of controversy after it was revealed it had a passenger who tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19. The passenger disembarked from MSC Meraviglia (correct) on March 8 after an eight-day Caribbean cruise. After the passenger got off, 103 others plus the vessels crew were left on board for the next voyage. Four days later, after the ship had sailed with thousands more people, the cruise line was told by Canadian authorities that the passenger had tested positive. Seven crew were isolated as a result. But instead of holding the ship off the Florida coast and testing everyone on board for COVID-19, MSC said US health authorities cleared the ship to dock in Miami yesterday (March 15) and for the 3,877 passengers to disembark as normal. As a result, thousands of people got off the ship without undergoing medical screening. 15 Mar 2020 Pictured: Cruise Ships. Photo credit: Greg Woodfield / MEGA TheMegaAgency.com +1 888 505 6342

  • A new automatic passenger drone that could revolutionize the daily commute has completed its first manned flight. California-based company Passenger Drone launched the red aerial vehicle, which has a top speed of 45mph, following months of rigorous testing. Complete with a touch-screen, the drone can be flown manually or at the touch of a button select a destination and the air vehicle takes over. It carries up to two people, is equipped with 16 electric engines and has a flight range of up to 25 minutes. Flight testing of the vertical take off and landing (VTOL) craft started in May before the first manned flight took place in August, footage of which was released this week as part of the official launch. A company spokesman explained: “The social and economic benefits of such a vehicle are numerous. “In cities around the world, traffic congestion costs commuters millions of hours every year and billions of dollars in lost productivity.” According to Passenger Drone, the average travel time to work in the United States is 25.4 minute, representing almost an hour every day. The company adds that the total cost of congestion to all drivers in the U.S. in 2016, including environmental costs, was $300 billion. The spokesman added: “On-demand aviation and manned drones has the potential to radically transform how we get from place to place, and to restore precious lost family and personal time to commuters worldwide. “Overall, the lower cost and improved flexibility provided by aerial drone technology may afford compelling solutions for individuals, businesses or governments worldwide.”. 03 Oct 2017 Pictured: California-based company Passenger Drone has launched a new automatic aerial vehicle that could revolutionize the daily commute. • A urology doctor delivered a baby boy during an eight-hour Air France flight from Paris to New York. Dr Sij Hemal, 27, was moments away from enjoying a glass of champagne in first class when he had to jump into action after 41-year-old passenger Toyin Ogundipe went into labor. Dr Hemal, a second-year urology resident at Cleveland Clinic’s Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute, safely delivered the baby — who was named Jake — before tying the umbilical cord with a makeshift surgical clamp… a shoe string. By chance, Dr Hemal had been seated next to a French pediatrician Dr. Susan Shepherd, who was able to help and gave the baby boy a clean bill of health upon delivery. Dr Hemal had been on a day-long journey from New Delhi, India, when the drama unfolded, and was making his way back to the U.S. after attending his best friend’s wedding the day before. “I was pretty tired from jet lag,” Dr Hemal said. “I thought I’d just have a drink and fall asleep. As it turned out, I’m glad I didn’t drink anything.” Ms Ogundipe, a banker who resides between the UK and Nigeria, was traveling with her four-year-old daughter Amy when she suddenly went into labor about midway into the December 17 flight, just as the jet skirted the southern coast of Greenland, 35,000 feet below. An emergency landing would have required a two-hour diversion to a U.S. military base in the Azores Islands, so Dr. Hemal recommended to the pilot they continue to JFK International Airport, which was still four hours away. “Her contractions were about 10 minutes apart, so the pediatrician and I began to monitor her vital signs and keep her comfortable,” Dr Hemal explained. The doctors used instruments and supplies in the flight’s scanty medical kit to routinely check Ms Ogundipe’s vital signs, including blood pressure, oxygen rate and pulse. But within the course of an hour, Toyin’s contractions accelerated; they occurred seven, then five and finally two minutes apart. “T

  • April 26, 2017 - inconnu - First class air passengers could one day be traveling in suites inspired by some of the world’s finest boutique hotels. The battle between airlines to tempt first and business class passengers is worth fighting. These high-flying passengers provide nearly half of an airline's revenue. So there is a constant search for designs. And the latest comes from London-based design company Seyourpowell.Instead of traditional seats, passengers could soon sprawl out in their own private rooms, workout in a gym, visit a spa or stretch their legs in a 'light lounge'.The idea of the shift is to give this elite group more privacy and space, as well as flexibility, allowing them to feel as if they are in a hotel rather than an airplane.Seymourpowell's First Spaces concept is billed as taking inspiration from a boutique hotel. The company has imagined an area in an Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger jet, containing six private rooms. Each room comes with a retractable door, armchair or couch that folds into a bed, a 42-inch TV screen and 'smart in-flight service system' designed to anticipate passengers' needs. The fully-enclosed suites are aimed at wealthy solo passengers or couples who don't want to be bothered or even seen by fellow travellers during a long-haul flight.Seymourpowell found there was a desire for high-end premium service after surveying passengers. The company then set out to redefine first class with the hotel-inspired suites that are less like a faceless cubicle. There would be single and double rooms A king-size bed means double rooms could be sold to solo passengers at a premium fare, while couples could book one at a price that is cheaper than two single rooms, said Seymourpowell. Each suite would have soft furnishings, storage for hand luggage, space to hang clothes, drawers for personal belongings, amenity kits, a tablet computer to control room functions and a large table that can be stowed.Passengers would control in-flight

  • August 22, 2017 - inconnu - A motorcycle bus able to link small remote towns where roads are narrow, has been unveiled. The Siroco is a gyroscopic motorcycle-bus designed to carry multiple passengers at a time. Even though the body is around the size of a city bus—it would stay upright due to its advanced gyroscopic technology and a smart auto pilot control system.Canada-based Imaginactive designer Charles Bombardier said :” The Siroco is made to offer the same feeling as riding a motorcycle while it carries a dozen people in climate-controlled comfort. “Its panoramic windows would offer an excellent view of the countryside and LCD screens could be embedded in the window panels to stream online shows and movies, provide information about location and travel times for example. He added:” The fact that this vehicle has only one row of wheels would allow it to take on curves faster, take less space on the road, and save energy with an aerodynamic body. “The Siroco could be used to transport passengers between smaller towns with a population of less than 15,000 people and ride on existing narrow roads. Its suspension system could be designed to ride on rougher terrain or smooth pavement. The current seating arrangement is one centre aisle with a single row of seats on each side. The gyroscopic technology would permit the Siroco to stay upright at any speed, and it would balance itself when it’s turning or when weight of the passengers isn’t distributed equally within. The internal battery pack could also move with a motor to help adjust the centre of gravity. An onboard computer would calculate in real time the orientation, acceleration turbulence, and vibrations and make adjustments to make the ride more enjoyable for its passengers. The Siroco could be used to ferry passengers on routes that are not being serviced by major bus lines today. Its operating cost would be lower than a regular bus—if you factor in occupancyâ
