• A pair of beavers who were born in captivity have finally fallen in love, several months after being released into the wild. This footage, reminiscent of a scene from Love Island but with beavers instead, shows Kent-born Harris and Scottish-born Alba giving each other a late-night grooming session, in a clear sign of their blossoming romance. But hard-to-get Alba — who was born at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) Highland Wildlife Park — made Harris put in some serious graft before agreeing to couple up at their lakeside home in Knapdale Forest in Argyll, Scotland. Ben Harrower, RZSS conservation programme manager, explained that it took the beavers more than three months to get the spark going. He said: “It’s fantastic to see Alba and Harris getting along so well and I have high hopes that they will breed and produce beaver kits in the future. “Alba established herself on the lochan [lake] after being released in October and, after a health and genetic screening, Harris was deemed to be a potential suitor. We released him in the same location in March and waited to see if they would pair up. “Post release monitoring footage showed both beavers doing well, but for months they were not seen together. It was only in late June, when Scottish Beavers contractors from the Heart of Argyll Wildlife Association were going through imagery from the lochan, that a video clip was found with them side by side and grooming each other, a great sign that Alba has accepted Harris as a mate.” Alba and Harris, who was born at the Wildwood Trust in Kent, have produced the first ever footage of a successful pairing of two captive bred beavers in the wild following the Scottish Beaver Trial in Knapdale. Mr Harrower added: “Beavers were absent from the wild in Scotland for over 400 years and the Scottish Beaver Trial was the first official reintroduction of a mammal to the UK. “Alba and Harris are just two of up to 28 beavers we are releasing in Knapdale o

  • This adorable calf has made history after becoming the first ever Indian rhino to be born using artificial insemination. Akuti, a seven-year-old Greater One Horned Indian Rhinoceros, gave birth at approximately 12.30am on Tuesday April 23. According to delighted zoo staff, it is the first ever birth of the species by induced ovulation and artificial insemination. Amazingly, the youngster appears to be in excellent health and these adorable images capture the scientific marvel taking its first ever steps as it wobbles around its enclosure. According to zoo officials, natural breeding wasn't working, so an expert team of animal reproductive specialists from the South East Zoo Alliance for Reproduction and Conservation, which focuses on endangered species, were brought in to help the birth along. The crew artificially collected semen from the father, Suru, on Jan. 8, 2018. The following day they artificially inseminated the mother. Once the team of experts had confirmed that Akuti was pregnant, she was trained to receive regular ultrasound examinations. This helped the staff monitor the development of the baby. Because the exact date of conception was known, they were able to accurately estimate the birth date. Zoo Spokesperson Ron Magill said: “With the artificial insemination, we had to first collect the semen from the male. Once that was done, we had to immobilize the female so that there would be no danger to the veterinarians who then carefully used an instrument that is inserted vaginally and placed up against the cervix where the semen is then deposited,” he said. “The challenge is that it has to be timed precisely to her ovulation which was also induced. As it turned out, our timing was perfect.”. 25 Apr 2019 Pictured: Historic Indian rhino born using artificial insemination at Zoo Miami. • EXCLUSIVE: Groups of migrant families were reunited with their children at the McAllen, Tx detention center where they have been separated from each other for over a few weeks. The families were seen being loaded into prison like buses, which had bars over covering the windows, where they unloaded and were grouped together at the local Central Station bus station. The group then walked a few blocks, with 3 Catholic Charities volenteers and one border patrol security agent, to a local Catholic Charities Humanitarian Respite Center for processing. Everyone, adult and children were seen wearing shoes without laces and a few had clear bags containing some of their belongings. The adults could also be seen wearing GPS ankle tracking monitors and holding blue GEO, (which is a company that provides enhanced in-prision offender programs).According to an inside source, the local McAllen Detention Center is full to capacity so they are having to send those families who have been reunited with their children to detention centers in other states. You can see some of the group holding folders with their bus schedules and where their final destination will be. The families will stay in their transferred locations until they are scheduled a hearing before a judge. 30 Aug 2018 Pictured: Detention Center Families. • April 28, 2018 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany - Michael Stürzenberger (Sturzenberger). Inviting Pegida founder Lutz Bachmann Pegida Dresden returned to Munich for a repeat of last month’s march through one of the most-traveled portions of the city. Last month, just a few hours after Bachmann’s appearance in Munich, he was arrested at London-Stansted airport and subsequently deported back to Germany due to attempting to make an appearance at a right-extremist event at Hyde Park. While in detention, he live-streamed videos and photos of the facility, leading to criminal charges. There were less than 100 demonstrators for Pegida and several hundred against, most notably, youths..The city of Munich has two Pegida factions: the „Munich” faction which has been called the “the weaponized arm of Pegida” due to the group allegedly trying to amass firearms through the operation of a shooting club. The group’s leader, Heinz Meyer, has been under terrorism monitoring since 2012 and has numerous neo-nazis and right-wing terrorists under its followers. “Pegida Dresden” is effectively Pegida Nuremburg, who is attempting to take the greater role in Munich. Sturzenberger is under Verfassungsschutz monitoring for islamophobia and incitement. In 2015, he was pushed out of Pegida by Meyer, after which he began working with numerous far-right groups across Germany, eventually winning Bachmann’s favor and becoming a regular speaker in the extreme-right city of Dresden. Pegida groups throughout Germany are associated with right-extremists, right-wing terrorists, and attacks on the media. (Credit Image: © Sachelle Babbar via ZUMA Wire)

Mandic is now the subject of national attention for aggressively approaching journalists and filing criminal complaints against them. Die right-extremist flank of the Alternative for Germany party known as “der Fluegel” (“The Wing”) appeared in Greding, near Nuremburg in Bavaria. Appearing with the group was Bjoern Hoecke, Benjamin Nolte, Bernhard Zimniok and Christina Baum. Due to connections to the right-extremist spectrum and efforts against democracy, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Verfassungsschutz, Secret Service) escalated the group to preliminary monitoring ahead of possible formal monitoring. Participants, including right-radical Dubravko Mandic of the AfD in Freiburg aggressively approached and harassed journalists on the scene, with him taking the phone away of one. Later, after calls to take the cameras from journalists, two attacked a journalist. Mandic has posted about “the great exchange” referencing such theories by white supremacists who committed shootings, such as in Christ Church. (Credit Image: © Sachelle Babbar/ZUMA Wire)

  • June 27, 2017 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany - Ahead of the Bundestag elections in roughly three months on September 24th, a podium discussion was organized and aimed at young voters so they may have a chance to be closer to the candidates and discuss issues with them directly. The event was organized as part of a cooperation between the Muenchen Volkshochschule (MVHS) and Bayerischer Rundfunk’s Puls. A point of controversy was the invitation of the AfD’s Petr Bystron, who is now under Verfassungsschutz (secret service) monitoring due to right-radical ties and connections to the ultra-radical Identitaere Bewegung. Furthermore, Bystron has been documented in the past with right-radicals, such as militant American Rick W. and violent neo-nazi Lukas Bals, with whom he intimidated opposition and journalists. .A source has verified that the other candidates were informed of them sharing a stage with a known right-radical, however the other candidates all voiced opposition, but refused to cancel their appearances together for fear they would be the only ones to do so, giving an advantage to other candidates..The AfD party has had numerous controversies as of late, most stemming from associations and leanings with the far- and radical right. Most recently, another AfD politician, Andre Poggenburg, was found as a participant in a leaked WhatsApp chat group saying such things as the neo-nazi slogan “Deutschland den Deutschen” (“Germany only for Germans”). Further messages included “after the [AfD] seizing of power, all journalists should be investigated and sifted out” (“nach der Machtuebernahme alle Journalisten ueberpruefen und sieben”). Poggenburg belongs to Bjoern Hoecke’s radical/nationalist/neo-nazi wing of the AfD..In March, Petr Bystron made the following statement, which, among other incidents, led to his monitoring by the Verfassungsschutz:.“Die Identitaere Bewegung ist eine Vorfeldorga

  • If a volcano erupts and there is no one there to see it, did it really erupt? Before the advent of satellites and seismic monitoring, volcanic eruptions in distant places would mostly go unnoticed unless they were absolutely extraordinary. Today, scientists can pick up signatures of events occurring far from any human observers.
That was the case in late April and early May 2016 when satellite sensors detected signs of a volcanic eruption in the far South Atlantic Ocean between South America and Antarctica. Mount Sourabaya, a stratovolcano on Bristol Island, appeared to be erupting for the first time in 60 years. There are no human residents of the island, which is almost always covered in glacial ice and snow.
The Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite acquired these two false-color images on April 24 and May 1, 2016. The images were built from a combination of shortwave-infrared, near-infrared, and red light (Landsat bands 6-5-4) that helps detect the heat signatures of an eruption. Both images show the heat signatures (red-orange) of what is likely hot lava, while white plumes trail away from the crater. The band combination makes the ice cover of the island appear bright blue-green.
With a roughly rectangular shape that is 12 kilometers by 14 kilometers (7 by 8.5 miles), Bristol Island is one of the largest in the South Sandwich Islands chain. The highest peak on the island stands 1100 meters (3,609 feet) above sea level. Due to the remote location and the lack of landing sites amidst its ice cap, the stratovolcano is one of the least studied in the world. The last known eruption on Bristol Island was reported in 1956.
• July 30, 2015 - SOL SYSTEM Earth -- 30 Jul 2015 -- NASA DSCOVR probe sends back spectacular image of Europe and Africa from space...Africa and most of southern Europe feature in this image of Earth released today by NASA - from a camera on the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite. The image, taken July 6 from a vantage point one million miles from Earth, was one of the first taken by NASA Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC). Central Europe is toward the top of the image with the Sahara Desert to the south, showing the Nile River flowing to the Mediterranean Sea through Egypt. The photographic-quality color image was generated by combining three separate images of the entire Earth taken a few minutes apart. The camera takes a series of 10 images using different narrowband filters -- from ultraviolet to near infrared -- to produce a variety of science products. The red, green and blue channel images are used in these Earth images. The DSCOVR mission is a partnership between NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Air Force, with the primary objective to maintain the nation real-time solar wind monitoring capabilities, which are critical to the accuracy and lead time of space weather alerts and forecasts from NOAA. DSCOVR was launched in February to its planned orbit at the first Lagrange point or L1, about one million miles from Earth toward the sun. It from that unique vantage point that the EPIC instrument is acquiring images of the entire sunlit face of Earth. Data from EPIC will be used to measure ozone and aerosol levels in Earth atmosphere, cloud height, vegetation properties and a variety of other features -- Picture by NASA/NASA (Credit Image: © /NASA via ZUMA Press)

The neonazi NPD party organized an information table in one of the most-traveled districts of Munich- the pedestrian zone in the city center where shoppers, tourists and workers cross. Behind the table was Munich city councilman Karl Richter, part of the neonazi group Buergerinitiativ Auslaender Stopp (Citizen Initiative to Stopp Foreigners) and Renate Werlberger of the NPD. Both parties are widely accepted as being one and the same and confirmed by Richter in terms of ideology and membership. The duo also displayed placards with ''Migration Kills'', deemed in the state of Saxony to be incitement. Police refused to take a report to pass to the prosecutor.
