  • July 7, 2017 - London, UK - London, UK. 7th July 2017. A cleaner holds up a poster 'No to Nepotism'' at the protest by the Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers Union (CAIWU) outside Facebook's offices in London against the 'Ugly Face of Facebook' calling for the cleaners there to be paid the London Living Wage and for a proper investigation into allegations of racism, bullying and nepotism by the manager on site. There are two redundant levels of management at these offices; rather than employing cleaners directly, Facebook uses the property management company JLL who use Peartree cleaning services to employ the cleaners; money which should go to the workers goes to these unnecessary levels of management and profit. Security staff at the site watched the protest, leading away several people who tried to interfere with it, and CAIWU were thanked for shortening their planned noisy protest to avoid undue interference with a community Mela taking place in the square. Several people from Peartree also came to watch the protest and their commercial director Stuart Conroy came for a brief discussion with the protest organiser Alberto Durango after the protest ended. • November 22, 2018 - Beirut, Lebanon - A protester seen standing next to statues while holding a flag during the protest. The mood was generally deflated as a handful of protesters, almost outnumbered by journalists were gathered at the Martyrs' Square in Beirut to protest against the poor state of their country, from waste management to the economy, for which they blame the government. Several said that celebrating independence under such circumstances feels like a bad joke. They admit that things will change for the better, saying Lebanese people would protest more, but they're tired because nothing has happened. • EXCLUSIVE: The secret girlfriend of singer Michael Jackson has spoken out ahead of the 10th anniversary of his death and told how she regrets not intervening to get him help for his problems. Shana Mangatal, 48, first met the singer when she was aged 17 and they had a relationship after she began working as a receptionist at the star’s Hollywood management company when in her twenties. She had arranged to see Jackson on Friday, June 26, 2009 - a day after his tragic death - after aides had called her to say Jackson was in trouble. Shana told The Sun: “It was devastating for years after I kept thinking, ‘What if I had gone to see him on Wednesday? Would that have changed anything? “It was a huge shock because I was supposed to go see him that week at rehearsal. That whole week I was preparing to see him. I'd gone to the mall to find an outfit to wear. "And I was trying to think of what to say to him because a couple of the people who were close to him had been calling me frantically, telling me that he was in trouble and he needed help. “One of the people was his nanny and she called me crying one day and begged me to go to rehearsal to go see him and tell him that I was here for him if he needed anything and offer to help with the children. “She really wanted me to go there and offer my help to him because she knew that he needed it but I couldn't think of what to say to him It was going to be hard for me to go to rehearsal and bring this up so I had been procrastinating all week. "I could've gone any day that week but I thought I'll just go on Friday and that will give me time to find the perfect outfit to wear and figure out what to say “Could I have somehow changed the state of mind to make him be able to stay around a little longer? I don't know. I guess we can never know, but part of the thing that haunted me all of these years was that I had an opportunity to see him at least one last time and to possibly help him and I put it off by procrastinat

  • A polar bear and her four-month-old cub are seen here leaving the maternity den and venturing into the outdoors in an impossibly cute video. The cub is the first polar bear to be born in the UK for 25 years and is now starting to explore the outdoor enclosure at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park. In the video the mother Victoria is seen walking out of the maternity den first, before her precious little cub emerges behind her keeping close to his mother. The pair are then seen foraging around in the grassy outdoor enclosure, which was witnesses by visitors at the park for the first time this week [21 March, 2018]. Previously the polar bear enclosure had been closed to the public to allow the bears the privacy required in the early weeks after birth. Una Richardson, head keeper at the RZSS Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig near Kingussie, said, “Having spent four months in her maternity den, Victoria quickly took the chance to go outside. “Understandably, her cub has been more cautious and is still getting used to new sights, smells and sounds.” Douglas Richardson, the park’s head of living collections, said, “Our pioneering captive polar bear management programme closely mirrors what happens in the wild and this birth shows our approach is working. “This is vital because a healthy and robust captive population may one day be needed to augment numbers in the wild, such are the threats to the species from climate change and human pressures. “The reintroduction of polar bears would be an enormous task but we need to have the option. While our cub will never be in the wild, there is a chance its offspring may be in decades to come.” The birth of the cub and journey so far is also being filmed for a forthcoming Channel 4 documentary. 23 Mar 2018 Pictured: A polar bear and her cub — the first to be born in the UK in 25 years - are seen emerging from their maternity den at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s High
