  • EXCLUSIVE: A THIRD lion pride has been brutally butchered in a MONTH in South Africa by evil poachers who hacked off their heads and paws and stole them to be used to make black magic potions. Distraught owner Menno Parsons, 46, was broken the news that his male lion Tau, 10, and four lionesses had been fed chicken carcasses laced with poison causing them an agonising death. Menno - one of the top air display pilots in South Africa - owns Sunward Ranch which provided lion experiences for underprivileged children near the town of Brits in Limpopo Province. On Tuesday night a gang of poachers threw poisoned chickens over the two electrified fences and waited for the predators to eat them and suffer for up to 30 minutes until all his five lions were dead. Then they cut their way through the fences and using machetes hacked off the heads or jaws of the majestic lions to steal their teeth and hacked off 20 paws and stole them for use in “muti”. Traditional witch doctors or healers use the body parts to make potions known as "muti" for local customers or the body parts are smuggled to the Far East and sold for vast amounts to dealers. Divorced father-of-three Menno said : “When you get the phone call telling you that your lions have not just been killed by poachers but have been butchered I tell you nothing prepares you. “I fly helicopters on anti-poaching patrols and go after poachers who are on the run to help out the police and security agencies but you never actually expect it is going to happen to you. “I have looked after lions for 10 years and they are like a family to me. I am not afraid of these poachers and I have got guys with me and we will be going out there looking for them” he said. Along with head of the pride Tau, 10, his four lionesses were killed sisters Tana and Jade, both 5, and Zuri and Nala, both 3. The animal park owner also flies a World War 2 P51 mustang and a Douglas DC3 airline and two Huey helicopters and is one of the most popular

  • This is the adorable moment two rescued mountain lion cubs are seen cuddling after being orphaned. The Oakland Zoo’s two newest residents are two mountain lion cubs, one male and one female, approximately 9 to 10 weeks of age. The 20-pound male, who arrived in late September, is from Modoc County, California. His mother, who was reportedly killing sheep in the area, was shot and killed under a legal depredation permit. The 8.4-pound female was discovered in Lake County after a property owner heard “chirps” from what he believed to be a bird. Mountain lion cubs make a high-pitched “chirping” sound when calling for their mother. After being nervous at the first the two cubs quickly became friends and are now inseparable. In this video the young mammals can be seen cuddling up and groom each other. Later in the clip the two cats be seen being fed by Zoo keepers. According to zoo officials, the cubs ultimately will be permanently placed at an appropriate facility when they are strong enough. The cubs were orphaned too young to have the survival skills necessary for release. Dr. Karen Emanuelson, Director of Veterinary Services at Oakland Zoo said: "We’re happy that these two cubs are doing very well, although it’s heartbreaking they were orphaned. We saw first-hand how much our now older mountain lions enjoyed, needed and bonded with each other as orphaned cubs themselves, so we are very glad these two cubs are providing companionship to each other as well. They are amazing animals, I feel so privileged and fortunate that we live with these amazing lions.". 25 Oct 2018 Pictured: Male and female orphaned mountain lion. • A lioness has killed the father of her three cups at an American zoo. The incident happened in front of one of their three-year-old cubs in the outdoor yard of the enclosure at Indianapolis zoo. In a statement released today the zoo confirmed the incident happened last week and revealed the 10-year-old male lion died after the female lion Zuri got involved in a confrontation with him. The statement from the zoo explained: ‘Zoo personnel made every effort to separate the lions, but Zuri held Nyack by the neck until he stopped moving.’ A necropsy on Nyack later revealed he died of suffocation from injuries to the neck. The lion pair lived together at the Indianapolis Zoo for eight years and had three cubs. Staff logs noted no previous examples of aggression between Zuri and Nyack, zoo officials said. Zoo staff are now investigating the incident, which happened on Monday 15 October before the zoo opened. ‘We know many people loved visiting Nyack. He was a magnificent male lion and left his legacy in his three cubs,’ the zoo said in a statement. 22 Oct 2018 Pictured: A 10-year-old male lion (Nyack) was killed by the mother (Zuri) of his three cubs at Indianapolis zoo on 15 October, 2018, it has emerged. • South Africa – Pretoria - 14 May 2020 - The Lion whisperer. Kevin Richardson who has shown interest in wild life since a young age is affectionately known as the Lion whisperer. He takes his lions for a walk during stage 4 of the lockdown. Richardson generates an income to take care of the lions from gate takings to the sanctuary and volunteers who pay to work there. Due to lockdown the sanctuary is closed and there is no income. There are 23 lions, several leopards, some hyena and buck on the sanctuary. He fears a collapse of the industry if they are to be subjected to the lockdown conditions for much longer. Picture: Timothy Bernard/African News Agency(ANA)

  • South Africa's most loved lion Sylvester who twice cheated execution after escaping from a game park has become the proud father to these adorable cubs. Sylvester made world headlines in 2015 when he was chased out of the Karoo National Park by older lions and during three weeks on the run killed 28 sheep, a cow and a kudu. Rangers dubbed him The Ghost as he kept eluding them as he trekked his way 180 miles away from the park leaving a trail of dead animals he had been feeding on behind him. The public begged for him to be spared and when he was found asleep a decision was taken to give him a chance and he was darted rather than being shot in the $60,000 hunt. Thousand of people from around the world added their voice to appeals to spare him from being euthanised. He was airlifted back to the Karoo National Park but when he escaped again in 2016 the fugitive was dubbed a “problem lion” and rangers said they feared it would have to be the bullet. But again the public came to Sylvester’s rescue and thanks to a tracking collar that had been fitted after his first escape he was found after three days having eaten just the one cow. Sylvester was spared a second time when a vet darted him from a helicopter and taken back to the Karoo National Park where a life or death debate raged over the much loved lion. In the end Sylvester got a stay of execution and was moved to Kuzuko Lodge which is a contractual area of the massive Addo Elephant National Park in a bid to rehabilitate him. He was introduced to another male and two lionesses in the hope he would become a dominant male. And now the team at Kuzuko Lodge in Addo, a member of Legacy Hotels & Resorts who care for Sylvester, revealed that the publics’ faith in the the Houdini-like lion had been justified. Lionesses are fiercely protective of their cubs when they are first born and it was 12 weeks before their suspicions were confirmed that Sylvester and his lioness Angel had indeed mated. These two adorable lions
