  • A McDonalds once branded the “ugliest building in Rotterdam” is enjoying a new lease of life as the poshest Maccies in the world. Looking more like a modern art gallery with glass floor-to-ceiling windows, this recently refurbished McDonalds in the Dutch city of Rotterdam is possibly the poshest in the world. Located on the iconic Coolsingel in the city’s “Cool District” - the fast-food eatery comes complete with grand central spiral staircase leading to the second floor and also boasts an outside terrace so customers can enjoy their Big Macs al fresco if they desire. The seats are upholstered in fine leather and the tables are made from marble while outside the perforated golden facade gives the location an extra special dazzling appeal and is a far cry from it’s former dated boxy appearance. The restaurant was completed at the end of 2015 after design firm Mei Architects were brought in to overhaul the dated building. And after a very fast construction the newly re-modeled building was completed in just two months. 09 Nov 2017 Pictured: This recently refurbished McDonalds in Rotterdam in The Netherlands is possibly the poshest in the world with floor-to-ceiling glass frontage and a perforated gold facade. • Meet Charley — a dancing robot ‘butler’ who delivers mini-bar item directly to your door at a new super luxury apartment tower in Los Angeles. Charley, who is based in the lobby at the opulent 40-storey Ten Thousand complex, can deliver anything from a bottle of water to champagne and chocolates to residents’ doors. A spokesman for Ten Thousand explained: “The resident makes a request and Charley enters the elevator and brings it to your door.  “Once the item is retrieved, Charley does a little dance and proceeds back down to the lobby.” Charley is one of a host of super high-end service on offer at Ten Thousand, which is located on the border of Beverly Hills and Century City and opened last year. The property, designed by Handel Architects, is being billed as the future of LA’s real estate market as the city looks to build more high-rise residences, much like the New York aesthetic. The residential tower features 75,000 sq ft of amenities and hospitality services overseen by a house staff of 80, from a leading-edge fitness and wellness center, indoor and outdoor pools, indoor and outdoor theaters, performance coaches, nutritionists and in-house car service, Residents can even book a room with an exam table to have facials and massages, or even call in their own medical technician — so if you need a few botox jabs or your fillers updating, you have the luxury of being able to do so on the site of your residence. Such luxury comes with a hefty price tag of course — two and three-bedroom apartments, complete with 10ft-high ceilings and panoramic views through floor-to-ceiling glass windows range anywhere from $9,000 to $25,000 per month while the jewel in the crown is the penthouse at $65,000 per month. 14 Jan 2018 Pictured: Ten Thousand is a new high-rise, luxury development in Los Angeles, California. • The fictional home of Pippi Longstocking, which featured in the hit 80s movie has hit the market for $750,000. The ponytailed, freckled-faced redhead captivate audiences when the Hollywood adaptation of the famous book hit our screens in 1988. Pippi, who was played by Tamara Erin, lived in the house called Villa Villekuella with her pet monkey and horse. In the film adapatation, called the New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking, Pippi makes friends with a couple of local children and the group embarks on a series of wild adventures. It became an instant cult classic but received mixed reviews from critics and eventually became a financial failure. While Tamara Erin went on to have a diverse career and finally reignited her fame by releasing a sex tape. In the movie, which is based on the famous Swedish books, the home is supposed to be set in the fictional village of Rocksby but in real life, the house is situated in Old Fernandina Beach, Florida. The 131-year-old home has hardly changed since the movie and is still painted bright green and red. It boasts four bedrooms, three bathrooms and is spread across is 2,200 square feet, which overlooks the former Spanish fort of San Carlos. It also comes with several historic features including original chandeliers and stained glass windows. The home, which is being listed by Stillwell Real Estate, was built in the 1880s for a harbor pilot and it has undergone several remodels, but has retained its unique charm. 02 May 2019 Pictured: Fictional home of Pippi Longstocking based in Florida. • EXCLUSIVE: George Michael’s ex-lover Fadi Fawaz now a squatter at the late star’s £5 million home. Fawaz, 45, broke a number of windows at the central London home where he has been squatting since the singer’s death. A workman at a nearby property said: “There was glass flying everywhere. He went absolutely berserk.” The jobless squatter has admitted smashing windows at the house, but bizarrely claimed he was doing home improvements, saying: “I was renovating. I was changing things around. I can ask when it’ll be done and let you know. It’s all right, it is all in hand.” At least nine shattered balcony door panes and three damaged fan lights could be seen from the street, at the house which overlooks Regent’s Park. Last year it emerged that George, who died on Christmas Day 2016, had left nothing for on-off lover Fadi in his £96.7million will. 13 Jul 2019 Pictured: Fadi Fawaz. • June 16, 2017 - FILE PHOTO - Amazon has acquired Whole Foods, a move that marks the e-commerce giant's official entry into the world of physical stores as well as groceries. It's Amazon's biggest acquisition ever, paying $13.7 billion in cash for the grocery chain, which now operates some 465 stores across the U.S. Amazon has grown into a retail behemoth and has has been tip-toeing into bookstores and experimental convenience stores. Those efforts led to speculation that Amazon eventually would make a major acquisition of a chain, rather than slowly build out its own stores. That acquisition ended up being Whole Foods. • August 3, 2017 - inconnu - Personal devices like smartphones and computer tablets could soon be powered by energy harvested by the owner’s sunglasses.Researchers’ from Germany's Karlsruhe Institute of Technology have created a pair of sunglasses that generate electricity via solar cells that double as their lenses.Organic solar cells were chosen instead of more traditional silicon cells because they're transparent, flexible, lightweight, and can be manufactured in a variety of shapes and colours. Each solar cell lens weighs about six grams, is 1.6 mm thick, and was made to fit into a set of commercially-produced sunglass frames. The frames feature added electronics in the arms, including a microprocessor, two sensors and two displays. The lenses power those electronics, which measure and display the current illumination intensity and ambient temperature as bar graphs.Although they work best in direct sunlight, each lens is still able to generate 200 microwatts of power under indoor illumination as low as 500 lux, which is about the average lighting for most offices or living areas. That 200 microwatts is enough to power a device such as a hearing aid or a step counter. The technology could conceivably also be applied to the windows of buildings, where it would generate much more power.Head of Organic Photovoltaics Group at the institute’s Light Technology department Dr. Alexander Colsmann said:” “We bring solar power to places where other solar technologies fail.”According to Colsmann, another field of application is the integration of solar cells into buildings.Since the glass facades of many high-rise buildings must often be shaded, he called it “ an obvious option “ to use organic solar modules for transforming the absorbed light into electric power. PhD student Dominik Landerer who largely contributed to the development of the solar glasses , added: “The Solar Glasses we developed are an example of how organi

Drowsing at the foot of Table Mountain, 19th-century Cape Town has already begun its southward sprawl over the slopes of DevilÕs Peak. St StephenÕs Church on Riebeeck Square (centre foreground) was built in 1801 as a theatre, becoming a church for freed slaves in 1829, when disgruntled ex-theatregoers smashed its stained-glass windows.
