  • Durban. 280818. In a bid to speed up emergency response time in the province, the MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal handedover 100 brand new ambulances to the different districts within KZN. MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, said for the province’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS), health service delivery in conjunction with primary healthcare and hospital services, form part of the unit’s three core pillars. Ambulances are therefore basically a crucial mobile emergency clinic whose personnel are trained to resuscitate and/or stabilise a patient using sophisticated techniques, equipment and medical drugs. Therefore the significance of this handover and how it will enhance the department’s ability to respond timeously to emergencies within the province cannot be overemphasised. • He's nailed it. String artist Ben Koracevic creates these incredible works of art - using just cord and nails. The London-based creative winds thousands of metres of string around tens of thousands of nails to create what he calls 'stringometry'. Among his works are a huge portrait of Hollywood star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Keanu Reeves as his John Wick action hero character. He has also created a likeness of Batman baddie The Joker - as played by Joaquin Phoenix in 2019 movie, Joker, as well as animals including a lion and monkeys and guitarist Slash from Guns N' Roses. He only started doing 'string art' nine months ago after watching a video of someone else showing off their skills. "I was completed fascinated with the rare art form," he said. "Developing my skill and ability to replicate what I witnessed became an obsession and I soon found every spare hour being invested into practising." The self-taught artist - who holds a science degree - has since quit his job and cashed in his life savings to follow his dream. He added: "I am quite particular on the pieces I choose. "It is just an instinct where I know the image will look good in string. "It is a very time consuming process which is a quality I enjoy. I love the mental endurance and patience needed to complete a piece to high quality. "Art is a universal language where the work does all the talking!" Ben uses a grid system overlapping a photo or sketch. He then upscales that on to a wooden canvas, before "meticulously referencing" nails to mark a foundation and an outline for the string. He winds the string between the nails to create a likeness, using more string to create darker shadows and more detail. He has used between 6,000 and 30,000 nails on individual pieces - and some contain more than 3,000 metres of string. And he can spend as much as 500 hours alone creating one piece. His works are available to buy at stringometry.com and he is available for private commissions. Please credit Courtesy of

He has used between 6,000 and 30,000 nails on individual pieces - and some contain more than 3,000 metres of string. And he can spend as much as 500 hours alone creating one piece. His works are available to buy at stringometry.com and he is available for private commissions. Please credit Courtesy of

  • These harrowing photographs show injuries Amber Heard claims she sustained at the hands of her then-husband Johnny Depp after telling him she was going to leave him. The photos — filed at a court in Virginia by Heard’s legal team — form part of a bombshell dossier as a rebuttal to Depp’s $50million defamation lawsuit against his former wife. Graphic images show Amber with facial abrasions, bruises, and clumps of hair missing following an incident which allegedly happened days before Christmas in Los Angeles in December 2015, just nine months after the pair married. In the deposition Amber, 32, claims Depp, 55, attacked her at their Los Angeles penthouse before friends were due to arrive She claims that at one point he dragged her by the hair, onto their marital bed, and beat her while screaming: 'I'll f*****g kill you, you hear me?'  Describing what happened next, Heard claims in the legal document: 'Hoping to avoid the violence, I tried to calm Johnny down, and then went upstairs to try to remove myself from the situation. 'Johnny followed me, hit me in the back of my head, grabbed me by my hair again, got in front of me on the steps, and then dragged me by my hair up the last few steps.  'At the top of stairs, Johnny shoved me twice, which made me fear I would fall. I told Johnny that he had broken my wrist in an attempt to get him to stop. 'Johnny kept hitting me, and each time he knocked me down, I chose to react by simply standing up and looking him in the eye. Johnny responded by yelling: "Oh, you think you’re a f***ing tough guy?" 'He reeled back and head-butted me in my face, bashing my nose, which immediately began bleeding, sending searing pain through my face. I instantly started tearing up, and I thought that I would have to go to the hospital.  'I told Johnny I wanted to leave him, and that I would call the police if he ever touched me again.

  • EXCLUSIVE: **NO USA TV. NO USA WEB** The gruesome injury Meghan Markle's nephew suffered is definitely NOT for the squeamish ... and TMZ's got video of it in the aftermath of a massive drunken brawl. It all went down a week ago at around 11 PM outside the Wonder Bur Lounge in Grants Pass, Oregon, where Meghan's nephew, Tyler Dooley, somehow got dragged into a street fight that ballooned 20 people strong ... this according to a police report obtained by TMZ. It's unclear what triggered the fight, but cops say Dooley was shoved to the ground and somehow broke his left ankle in spectacular form. If ya got the stomach for it ... check out the vid. You can see Dooley tried walking it off ... but he can't stand on his own two feet cause his ankle's mangled. Cops say he was so drunk he didn't feel the pain from his ankle practically snapping off. Dooley was taken to a hospital and nobody was arrested. Witnesses tell us as he was being wheeled inside the ambulance he said, "I have a Rolex. I can pay for this." Again, he was drunk. Dooley, of course, is part of Meghan's extended family. You'll recall he and his brood traveled to London last year ... even though they weren't invited to Meghan's Royal wedding. We've reached out to Dooley to get his side of the story, so far, no word back. 11 May 2019 Pictured: Tyler Dooley. Photo credit: TMZ/MEGA TheMegaAgency.com +1 888 505 6342

• Cristiano Ronaldo packs a punch in a new photoshoot to promote his new superhero-inspired line of underwear. The 34-year-old Portuguese footballer shows off his impressive physique and rippling abs as he models a series of form-fitting boxer shorts from the Spring/Summer 2019 CR7 Underwear collection. The Juventus FC star poses in a range of briefs in front of a series of comic book style backdrops emblazoned with words including ‘strength, power, belief’. Speaking of the new line, the father-of-four said: ‘Everyone knows that underwear is one of the best parts of any superhero’s wardrobe and I believe that everyone has their own superpowers. For the SS19 CR7 Underwear campaign I was asked what mine are and I encourage my fans to identify and celebrate theirs.’ Referring to his ‘superpowers’, Ronaldo went on: ‘The first is Power. Everyone has their own power — it’s all about finding the unique power in you. Mine comes from training hard to become physically powerful but also from having the power to inspire others to work hard for their dreams, which is something I am really passionate about and grateful for. ‘Strength is an essential superpower. I don’t just focus on keeping my body strong, but my mind too. Both physical and mental strength are equally important to me and something I work hard to achieve. ‘Belief is key. It’s so important to have self-belief and to also believe in and uplift the people around you. I have a great team, so it’s easy to have belief in what we can achieve. ‘And, of course, my secret superpower- my CR7 Underwear. I always feel my best, my most confident when I’m wearing CR7 Underwear.’ The Spring/Summer 2019 CR7 Underwear collection is available online and from select retailers worldwide. 24 Apr 2019 Pictured: Cristiano Ronaldo models a series of form-fitting boxer shorts from the Spring/Summer 2019 CR7 Underwear collection. • On a clear day, Heard Island stands as a small drumstick-shaped patch of rock and snow amidst a vast expanse of blue. Located in the southwestern Indian Ocean and only accessible by boat, the small volcanic island is situated 4,000 kilometers southwest of Western Australia, 4,700 kilometers southeast of Africa, and 1,000 kilometers north of Antarctica.<br />
When the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8 captured this image of Heard Island, just the tip of Mawson Peak - the highest point on the island - was visible through the sheet of marine stratocumulus clouds swirling over this part of the Furious Fifties. Though just 2,745 meters (9,006 feet), the mountain was tall enough to stir up several cloud vortices that swirled downwind like eddies in a fast-moving river.<br />
Theodore von Kármán, a Hungarian-American physicist, was the first to describe the physical processes that create long chains of spiral eddies like the ones shown above. Known as von Kármán vortices, the patterns can form nearly anywhere that fluid flow is disturbed by an object. In this case, the unique flow occurs as winds streamed around Mawson Peak. As winds were diverted around the mountain, the disturbance in the flow propagated downstream in the form of vortices that alternate their direction of rotation.<br />
Often, von Kármán vortices form relatively straight lines of eddies; in this case, powerful southerly winds appear to be pushing the vortices northward. You can view the scene on the Worldview browser to get a broader view of the vortices trailing north.<br />
