  • Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, the Duke of  Edinburgh, ride along The Mall in an open-top car as they return from a banquet at Guildhall in the City of London to watch a  parade outside Buckingham Palace.     * The parade, which lasted more than three hours, included bands from the Notting Hill Carnival, voluntary service personnel, children from the Chicken Shed Theatre Company, and a series of living rooms reflecting the five decades of her reign.  After it finished the Royal family was expected to appear on the balcony and watch a flypast.

Great North Eastern Railway has invested  30 million in the refit of all 302 passenger car interiors in their electric 225 fleet. Extra legroom for passengers in standard accommodation, seats with better back support, fresh coffee-making facilities and electric power sockets for laptops are among the improvements.
