  • May 23, 2019 - Warsaw, Mazowieckie, Poland - A disabled protester seen on his way to the Prime Minister's office during the protest..Disabled persons and their carers protested in Warsaw. The protest was organized by RON (Parents of Disabled Children). First, outside the Presidential Palace, they read a letter to President Andrzej Duda, and later they went outside the prime minister's office. The participants of the march demand dignity, decent life, and humanitarian treatment from the government..The march was led by Iwona Hartwich, who along with her disabled son Kuba, last year occupied for 40 days the parliament's corridor to protest against the amount of alms that the state pays to people like her son. • July 20, 2017 - London, UK - London, UK. July 20th 2017. Paula Peters of DPAC (Disabled People Against Cuts) wears an RMT t-shirt for the protest with RMT members outside the Dept of Transport, calling for disabled people to have the same right to use rail services as others. Driver Only Operated trains, the removal of guards from trains and rail staff from stations all threaten their freedom to travel. DPAC have joined with RMT staff on picket lines when they take industrial action against these changes which discriminate against the disabled and threaten to rail safety. After a protest rally with speeches in front of the ministry they delivered a petition demanding their right to ride on trains without having to give a day's notice and then blocked the road outside for ten minutes. • June 3, 2017 - London, UK - Maidenhead, UK. 3rd June 2017. Police surround Disabled People Against Cuts protesters blocking a main road into the town in protest in Theresa May’s constituency against the Tory government, the first in the world to be found guilty of the grave and systematic violations of disabled people's human rights by the UN and tell them they must get off the street. Paula Peters lets the police know what she thinks of them after they have threatened her with arrest to get her to move off the street. The cuts they have made since 2010 have had 9 times the impact on disabled people as on any other group, 19 times more for those with the highest support needs. DPAC say Tory polices are heartless and are starving, isolating and ultimately killing the disabled. They marched from the station to protest on the high street with a straw 'Theresa May - Weak and Wobbly' and the message 'Cuts Kill' and after a hour of protest returned calling on voters to vote for anyone but her to the station and blocked one of the busiest roads into the town for around 15 minutes. • June 24, 2017 - London, UK - for a rally at Downing St against the Tories and their talks with the DUP to provide support for the minority government. Many protesters were in red for the blood of lives lost without access to reproductive rights, of those who lost their lives at Grenfell tower because they were considered too poor or black to need safe housing, of disabled who have died because of cuts and unfair assessments, of innocent civilians bombed overseas and by terrorists here, for the blood shed in Northern Ireland before the peace process and for the decision to gamble the rights, health and safety of LGBT+ people. As the rally ended they were joined by the UAF who had been opposing the small march by the EDF. Peter Marshall Images Live (Credit Image: © Peter Marshall/ImagesLive via ZUMA Wire)

  • August 8, 2017 - New York City, New York, United States of America - (photo: Sachelle Babbar) New Yorkers gathered at the steps of City Hall on Tuesday morning to protest alleged discrimination by landlords who refuse tenants based on their source of income. In this case, homeless who are eligible for generous city vouchers based on various issues, such as disabilities, are left to remain homeless when their vouchers are refused. The group Vocal NY also displayed Craigslist ads that contain wording that makes it apparent that renters will not take vouchers. The group has not only indicated that vouchers are often worth more than the rent asked for, but the practice of refusing them is illegal. However, the city’s offices that investigate such cases have poor track records in prosecuting this form of discrimination. (Credit Image: © Sachelle Babbar via ZUMA Wire)

  • April 28, 2018 - London, UK. 28th April 2018. Unite workers pose with a large poster 'Remember the Dead. Fight for the Living' at the start of the International Workers’ Memorial Day rally at the statue of a building worker on Tower Hill remembering all those killed at work, around 500 in the last ten years, mainly in the construction industry, as well as those injured, disabled and made unwell, almost all in preventable incidents. The actual number of work-related deaths is several orders of magnitude greater, estimated at over 150 per day, but the official figures only include those actually killed at work for which accident reports have been submitted - and not for example the 18,000 that die years after exposure from work-related cancers. The Government 'red tape initiative' has resulted in fewer and less rigorous safety inspections and the removal of many important safety checks that protect workers. At the centre of the event was a coffin with a pair of empty boots and a hard hat, and after the speeches by Peter Kavanagh, secretary London & Eastern Region Unite, Helen Clifford, a solicitor working on workplace deaths, Moyra Samuels of Justice4Grenfell and Gail Cartmel, Assistant General Secretary Unite, wreaths were laid and there was a period of silence before black balloons were released, one for each worker killed this year in the construction industry.
