  • An adorable baby giraffe has been given special blue shoes to help realign its legs. The youngster was born to his mom, Olivia, on Thursday May 2 and had to have his legs radiographed after vets at Woodland Park Zoo, in Seattle, noticed his rear feet were not in normal alignment. Specialists then applied casts to his legs to help stabilize his limbs a day after he was born. Following a consultation with colleagues at other zoos, the exhibit team consisting of artists and builders, then crafted a pair of special shoes. The unique footwear, which will help the baby to get more traction as he stumbles around with this mother, are made of high-density polyethylene and plywood. Associate zoo veterinarian Dr Tim Storms said: "The condition is known as hyperextended fetlocks. It is well documented in horses and has been reported to occur in giraffes. At this stage, the new therapeutic shoes are on a trial basis but I'm hopeful that they will help him walk better. We'll continue refining and improving our approach to find a good balance between supporting his limbs and strengthening his tendons." The treatment is expected to last over several months for the still-unnamed calf. 09 May 2019 Pictured: Baby giraffe receives special shoes at Woodland Park Zoo. • This image shows the wreck of the doomed plane that was carrying football star Emiliano Sala. The photo of the wreckage was released by the Air Accident Investigation Branch [AAIB] in the UK. A search found the Piper Malibu plane on the seabed off Guernsey, almost two weeks after it went missing. The flight was carrying Argentine striker Sala and pilot David Ibbotson from Nantes, north west France, to Cardiff in Wales. The "substantial amount of wreckage" of the plane, which went missing on 21 January, was found on February 3 after a privately-funded search was started. In a statement the AAIB said: "The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) carried out a further search of the area overnight, but did not identify any additional pieces of wreckage. "Tragically, in video footage from the ROV, one occupant is visible amidst the wreckage. "The AAIB is now considering the next steps, in consultation with the families of the pilot and passenger, and the police." • EXCLUSIVE: ***NO NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, NO NEW YORK TIMES, NO NEWSDAY*** Some homeowners plant elaborate gardens. Others splurge on tennis courts or swimming pools. Alan Wilzig prefers something a bit racier. In the backyard of his 150-year-old Dutch Colonial-style home in the Hudson Valley town of Taghkanic, he has built a 1.15-mile-long, 40-foot-wide, bidirectional racetrack — heavy on the hairpin turns and smooth as a billiard table — designed for high-performance motorcycles and cars. “You’re going fast enough to make your ass pucker,” Wilzig, 52, told The Post. “The f– ing hairs on your neck stand up.” The lobster-claw-shaped course is the only personal-use, professional-quality private racetrack in the world, according to Wilzig. It boasts nine turns, 80 feet of elevation changes, grass-covered boundaries and FoamAir fences outside the corners to soften the impact of going off course. (There have been four accidents on the track but no injuries.) Wilzig, who once made headlines for having co-owned a castle in Water Mill, LI, with his brother Ivan, describes the track as a “field of dreams for motor sports.” The impetus for it came in the late 1990s after a motorcycle-riding buddy in the Hamptons nearly got killed by an automobile; the idea of street-riding became increasingly unappealing to Wilzig. “After 100,000 miles of around-the-world motorcycle-riding without incident,” he said. “I realized it was only a matter of time before somebody pulled out in a fancy car and hit me.” Wilzig financed his property purchase with cash from the sale of the Trust Company of New Jersey bank in 2004. Long controlled by Wilzig’s father, Siggi B., who died in 2003, it went for $726 million. In 2005, Alan took his cut of the profits and bought the 275-acre spread upstate for $3.35 million. “I bought this property with the intention of building a racetrack,” said Wilzig, who served as the bank’s CEO and now focuses primarily on philanthropy.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ***NO NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, NO NEW YORK TIMES, NO NEWSDAY*** Some homeowners plant elaborate gardens.
