As a result of the Cap on Kids, Massachusetts does not provide benefits for 9.400 children living in deep poverty. Their parents struggle to rovide even the most basic essential for their children including diapers to keep their babies dry, safe, and healthy...The Campaign to Lift the Cap on Kids has been collecting donated diapers for the event to illustrate this harsh policy's impact and are on display at the Statehouse during the meeting today. Schools throughout Palm Beach County opened their doors on Thursday and Friday to share a free healthy breakfast and lunch after Hurricane Irma. Children under the age of 18, as well as the adult accompanying them, were welcome to eat. Children did not have to be a registered student of the District or of the school to receive a free meal. ''We had about 40 people for breakfast and about 67 for lunch yesterday,'' said assistant principal Erin Walsh. ''We are expecting the same today. Anybody who lives in the community, 18 and under, is welcome to come. I think people are coming for a nice cool place to sit and charge their devices as much as for the food. And it is good for kids to get back in the routine of coming back to school. (Credit Image: © Bruce R. Bennett/The Palm Beach Post via ZUMA Wire)
