He came to prominence from his television roles, including Bright Abbott in Everwood (2002–2006) and Andy Dwyer in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation (2009–2015). Her other film roles included Shampoo (1975), The Blues Brothers (1980), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), The 'Burbs (1989), and When Harry Met Sally (1989).
