  • Mick Jagger on stage at the Rolling Stones concert at Don Valley Stadium, in Sheffield, on their Voodoo Lounge tour. *05/12/01 Mick Jagger on stage at a Rolling Stones concert at the Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield. The haunting guitar line from the atmospheric opening bars of Gimme Shelter has helped the classic song to the title of the Rolling Stones' greatest ever track, according to fellow musicians. The song, from the 1969 album Let It Bleed, tops the list in a survey of 100 stars such as Bob Geldof, Marc Almond and Mick Hucknall for Uncut magazine. But the survey shows voters were unimpressed by the wrinkly rockers' output of the past three decades - the most recent tracks in the top 20 were a pair dating back to 1972. The top ten were: 1. Gimme Shelter, 2. Street Fighting Man, 3. Sympathy For The Devil, 4. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, 5. Tumbling Dice, 6. Paint It Black, 7. 19th Nervous Breakdown, 8. Jumpin' Jack Flash, 9. Play With Fire, 10. We Love You.
