  • EXCLUSIVE: Great white sharks have mysteriously vanished from one of their most popular hunting grounds in South Africa leaving tourism bosses baffled as to what has driven away one of their biggest money spinners. Theories include a fear of Orca's who have been targeting the apex predators tearing them open to eat their fatty livers as well as pollution, climate change and over fishing of much of the great whites natural prey. Between 2010 and 2016 shark spotters recorded an average of 205 great white sightings a year in False Bay which is a 600 square mile section of the Atlantic Ocean near tourist hot spot Cape Town. In 2018 they were only 50 sightings of the deadly predators made famous by the Hollywood blockbuster Jaws and so far this year not a single one of the much-feared great white shark has been spotted. And it has been two years since the Shark Spotters Applied Research Programme has picked up a signal from any of the great white’s that had been tagged by scientists and were resident in False Bay. This comes after 5 great white sharks were washed up along the South African coastline in 2017 with gaping wounds on their side with their livers having been bitten out by two killer whales in the area. The killer whales bite a large slit in the side of the great whites after attacking as a pair and then suck out the fatty liver which is 600lb meat delicacy in a phenomenon that has only recently been discovered. The two Orca’s responsible – known as Port and Starboard as their dorsal fins hang to the left on one and to the right on the other – spurned their natural prey like seals having developed a taste for shark. The great whites population in False Bay sea to be taking no chances and have moved to new hunting grounds away from Seal Island but it is hoped that they will in time return to their usual hunting ground. The City of Cape Town said: ”Great white sharks have been noticeably absent from False Bay during 2019 prompting questions as to when t

  • Eva Longoria shows off her spicy side - as she unveils her new brand of salsa in the kitchen. The former Desperate Housewives star, 44, tapped into her Texan roots to team up with Fresh Cravings to launch the condiment. Eva's Kitchen Cantina Style Salsa "packs a rich and smoky bite that's derived from chipotle, jalapeno, cayenne, and Anaheim peppers, fresh vegetables and vine-ripened tomatoes that are specially charred and roasted to bring out their most robust taste". "Being a Texas-native and growing up in a Latino family filled with passionate cooks, the smell of cilantro, onions, peppers, and charred tomatoes was always present," she said. She added: "I inherited my family's love of fresh-tasting salsa, and in my house, my husband and I eat it on everything—eggs, baked chicken, salads, tacos, and even pizza. Like most people, I don't always have time to make salsa from scratch. Adapting one of my family's recipes with the Fresh Cravings team means that you get an authentic salsa that's as close to homemade as possible." The salsa is available at H-E-B stores in the US. • EXCLUSIVE: THIS HONEY BADGER IS DEFINITELY NOT SWEET – AMAZINGLY ANGRY ANIMAL CHALLENGES A HUGE ANTELOPE AND DOESN’T BACK DOWN DESPITE BEING SENT FLYING There’s nothing sweet about this honey badger, the amazingly angry animal which challenges anything that comes close – even horned antelopes 20 TIMES bigger than it is. Wildlife photographer Dirk Theron, 45, captured some stunning photos of the spaniel-sized badger tussling with a huge oryx antelope. As these pictures show, incredibly the badger challenged the much-larger animal to a fight at a waterhole, even though an oryx comes equipped with impaling metre-long horns. Despite being hurled through the air like a rag doll the honey badger kept coming back for more, biting at the antelopes ankles, before eventually the bemused herbivore left the scene. Lions have been known to walk around honey badgers rather than getting close, such is their reputation for ferocity, which is matched only by their northern cousin, the wolverine. And on the next day the same honey badger was photographed by Dirk, this time chasing away a jackal. Dirk said this particular badger wasn’t sick or injured, it just didn’t like other animals getting too close to it at a waterhole. The images were taken in Etosha National Park, Namibia, and have recently been featured in an African wildlife blog. Dirk said: “It was our first day in Etosha and this waterhole is one of my favourites because of the angle of the afternoon sun. “We were sitting there for a while with not much going on and we were actually thinking of going back to camp, which somebody excitedly said the words ‘honey badger’. “You don’t often get to show people a honey badger in the wild, few people believe you when you try and explain how ferocious and dangerous these guys are. “Well, this one as about to do a show and tell for us. It all happened so quick and was over in a few short minutes. You can spend years in the wild and never see anything like th

  • EXCLUSIVE: The dense population of Cape fur seals at certain times of the year attracts the seal's main predator, the Great White Shark. Seal Island and the adjacent waters provide rare opportunities for those who wish to witness attacks by White Sharks on the Cape Fur Seal and to observe social interactions amongst creatures of both species. The island is well known for the dramatic way the sharks grab their prey: a shark launching an attack will come up from underneath and will often breach the surface. It has been shown that if the seals enter the "Ring of Death" (where the sharks circle the island) on the surface instead of at the murky bottom, they are more likely to be picked off by the faster and more aggressive Great White. 25 Dec 2018 Pictured: Juvenile Cape Fr Seal with a shark bite wound.
