  • April 29, 2019 - Siv Kladenetc, Bulgaria - A view of destroyed and abandoned homes in almost depopulated Bulgarian village of Siv kladenetc, located in south Bulgaria, just few hundred meters of Bulgarian - Greek border. The village was depopulated a few years ago because of socio-economic situation in the country and region then. Bulgaria has the lowest average salary in the EU - 575 Euro, the lowest wage - 260 Euro and the smallest average pension - 190 Euro. The result of that values is that more than 40 per cent of Bulgarians are at risk of poverty and social exclusion. The country is also leader in the prevalence of corruption that exhaust and discourages buisness and repels foreign investors. Over 570 Bulgarian villages have no population or less than ten inhabitants and in the 164 villages there are no inhabitants, according to the National statistical institute, as of the December 31, 2018. Because of demographic crisis over the last 17 years the closed schools are 1084. Photo by: /Impact Press Group/NurPhoto (Credit Image: © Impactpressgroup.Org/NurPhoto via ZUMA Press)

  • May 2, 2019 - Shipka, Bulgaria - A view of Buzludzha Monument - the largest ideological monument of the Communist regime in Bulgaria. Built in 1981, it has a visual resemblance to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal. After the political changes of 1989, the building was abandoned and became a victim of theft, vandalism and harsh weather conditions, yet , the monument falls in the ''Most Beautiful Abandoned Places in the World'' ranking number 25, and in 2013 a similar ranking is ranked first. In 2018 the building was declared one of the 7 most endangered sites of cultural heritage in Europe in 2018 under the nomination of ''The Buzludzha Project'' Foundation. Due to the frequent incidents of climbers and more extreme tourists from this year the monument has a 24-hour armed guard and access to the interior of the monument is forbidden. Recently, many organizations and private individuals have been ambitious in organizing the restoration of the Buzludzha Monument and all communist symbols from the era of the communist regime in Bulgaria with the aim of popularizing them among Bulgarian and foreign tourists and turning them into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. • Market trader finds Abandoned baby in cardboard box after seeing it 3 hours earlier.. .When a market trader saw a cardboard box by the roadside as he drove to market at 5 am at Saowalak village in Thailand’s Suratthani area he thought little about it...But when the box was still there on his return journey some three and a half hours later he felt he should investigate. He carefully opened the box to find a new born baby boy wrapped in a towel. And when the baby began to cry he immediately called the police and the local rescue service for assistance. . .The unnamed man said “when I opened the box I was just in a state of shock – you don’t expect to find babies by the roadside”. .The baby was taken to nearby Surathani Hospital where he was pronounced fit and well.. .A police spokesman said “we believe the baby was probably delivered by a teenager unknown to her parents. We will check the security cameras in the area as the mother should receive a check up and counselling”.©Thai rescue service/Exclusivepix Media (Credit Image: © Exclusivepix media via ZUMA Press)

  • March 9, 2016 - Washington, DC, U.S - HSUS and NYBC came to an agreement recently after years of discussion about the care of research chimps NYBC abandoned in Liberia. In March 2016, a team from Humane Society of the United States visits Liberia in West Africa to view situation with research chimpanzees abandoned by New York Blood Center, which stopped all funding for food and water and also refused to pay for their caregivers who used their own meager finances to continue feeding them. They now live on six islands serving as a sanctuary run by Jenny and Jim Desmond. The HSUS has stepped in to assist and improve the dire situation in which the chimpanzees were literally left to die if not for the heroic efforts of their original caregivers who had worked for New York Blood Center and were abandoned as well. The Humane Society of the United States and New York Blood Center came to an agreement recently in May 2017 after years of discussion about the care of research chimps that were abandoned by NYBC which withdrew all funding for food and water after decades of biomedical experimentation. Their former caregivers used their own meager finances to continue feeding them. The Humane Society of the United States stepped in to improve the dire situation in which the chimps were literally left to die if not for the heroic efforts of their caregivers, former employees of NYBC who were abandoned as well. hey now live on six islands serving as a sanctuary run by JENNY and JIMMY DESMOND until funding can be provided for a true sanctuary. • EXCLUSIVE FEATURE: .Ponso the chimp gets second chance..For more than 30 years, Ponso the chimp has been living on a deserted island off the Ivory Coast. He has no source of food or water, and his companions all died years ago...But thanks to one man, he's alive...For several years, a villager named Germain, despite his limited income, has stopped by to drop off food for the lonely chimp. While the diet of bread and bananas isn't enough for the roughly 40-year-old chimp to thrive, it's kept him alive — and it's clear he shows his gratitude...Ponso's sad plight is nothing compared to his sad past. For years, he was used in painful tests by the New York Blood Center (NYBC), which conducted hepatitis research using scores of chimps, many of whom were captured from the wild...While trapped in the labs, the chimps faced dozens of biopsies and anesthetizations apiece. One lost her eye when researchers shot her in the face with a dart; another had only one arm after he was hit with a bullet meant for his mother — poachers killed her so he could be kidnapped for the lab...Mothers lost baby after baby; other chimps strangled themselves at the research center, where for many years they lived chained by their necks to jungle gyms...Yet when the tests were over, NYBC decided to abandon the chimps, dumping them on a string of islands near Liberia like the one Ponso lives on. They had no source of food or fresh water, and many died soon after from disease and starvation...Ponso himself was one of 20 chimps abandoned in 1983, but, in the words of one aid group, the island soon became a ''veritable massacre.'' Within months, half of the mistreated animals were dead or missing...The nine survivors were relocated. A short time after, five more of them were dead...Ponso was the sole survivor, along with his mate and their two children. But the rest of his little family died within days of each other in 2013. Germain, the villager who had been feeding them, reported that

The chimps now live on six mangrove islands until funding can be provided for a true sanctuary. (Credit Image: © Carol Guzy via ZUMA Wire)
