  • These incredible photos show the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Chile — home to the second largest swimming pool in the world. The outdoor pool is located halfway up the country’s Pacific Coast in the city of Algarrobo and is filled with a staggering 66 million gallons of crystal clear seawater. Spanning an area of 20 acres — and equivalent in size to 6,000 average size home swimming pools — the San Alfonso pool, designed by water innovation company Crystal Lagoons, was until recently the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest swimming pool. But in December 2015 a sister project by Crystal Lagoons in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, took over the title with the completion of a 30 acre pool, the first phase of plans for a total of 12 lagoons that will span 250 acres and the centerpiece of the USD $5.5 billion, 1,8500-acre Citystars project with residential apartments, hotels and shopping. Still, Sharm el Sheikh’s older sister pool in Chile, at 3,323ft long with a maximum depth of 11.5ft, is still quite the sight to behold and will turn 11-years-old next month, after opening back in December 2006. The San Alfonso pool, situated right next to the Pacific Ocean, uses a computer-controlled filtration system to suck water from the sea at one end and pump it back out at the other. The sun warms the pool to 26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit) — nine degrees Celsius (48 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than the ocean. And being the size it is, swimming it not the only thing on the agenda — the gigantic size makes it possible to sail boats and carry out all kinds of fun water sports activities. 14 Nov 2017 Pictured: The San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile — home to the second largest swimming pool in the world. • A McDonalds once branded the “ugliest building in Rotterdam” is enjoying a new lease of life as the poshest Maccies in the world. Looking more like a modern art gallery with glass floor-to-ceiling windows, this recently refurbished McDonalds in the Dutch city of Rotterdam is possibly the poshest in the world. Located on the iconic Coolsingel in the city’s “Cool District” - the fast-food eatery comes complete with grand central spiral staircase leading to the second floor and also boasts an outside terrace so customers can enjoy their Big Macs al fresco if they desire. The seats are upholstered in fine leather and the tables are made from marble while outside the perforated golden facade gives the location an extra special dazzling appeal and is a far cry from it’s former dated boxy appearance. The restaurant was completed at the end of 2015 after design firm Mei Architects were brought in to overhaul the dated building. And after a very fast construction the newly re-modeled building was completed in just two months. 09 Nov 2017 Pictured: This recently refurbished McDonalds in Rotterdam in The Netherlands is possibly the poshest in the world with floor-to-ceiling glass frontage and a perforated gold facade. • These artistic impressions reveal the inside of the world’s first luxury space hotel — which is set to go into orbit in two years time. For an out-of-this-world-price of $9.5 million dollars, guests of the Aurora Station will get to see up to 16 sunrises in one day and float in zero gravity while traversing the planet in Low Earth Orbit at a height of around 200 miles, making for stunning views. The space station can host six people at a time, including two crew members for a 12-day space adventure. The space hotel, which has been developed by US-based space technology start-up Orion Span, is set to welcome its first guests in 2022, with the station’s launch set for 2021. Frank Bunger, CEO and founder of Orion Span, said: “Our goal is to make space accessible to all.” The space station — which will be around the size of a private jet at 12 feet wide by 35 feet long — will have fun activities on board including growing food while in orbit and zero gravity ping pong. Guests, who will be able to float throughout the hotel, will also be able to have video chats to friends and family back home via high-speed wireless Internet and will receive a hero’s welcome upon their return. Mr Bunger added: “With customizable private sleeping pods, top-quality space food and luxury design details, Aurora Station is ushering in a new era of space travel, setting the bar higher than ever before.”. 24 Jan 2019 Pictured: Renderings show inside the Aurora Station, the world’s first space hotel, which is set for lift off in 2021. • A world record breaking elephant sculpture stopped people in their tracks on a suburban street as passers-by stopped for a closer look. The almost four-metre-tall beast — mounted outside a printing company in Birmingham, UK — is destined to set a new record as the biggest animal sculpture created by a 3D printing machine. The technological marvel is perfectly life like, though larger than most elephants in the wild and as a permanent sculpture, is set to become a new landmark for the UK’s second. largest city. The animal is mounted high on the wall of creative print company, Andesign, and is shown smashing through the building's brickwork out onto the street. Unveiled by Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell, a crowd of 100 gathered to see the spectacular pachyderm revealed to the public for the first time. Mr Mitchell said of the sculpture: ‘This is a properly astonishing spectacle and a measure of the great ingenuity that typifies British industry and the very clever creative people who work here. Isn't it incredible what has been achieved with a print machine ? ‘In fact, it's so lifelike that my dog is completely terrified to come out of the car or anywhere near the thing.’ The African elephant was created by the world's biggest and fastest 3D printing machine, which can duplicate absolutely any object imaginable in the tiniest detail by printing line upon line of a special resin. The as yet unnamed elephant was created over five days of continuous printing and is the biggest animal ever created by a printing machine. Delighted bosses at Andesign await confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records but are refusing to rest on their laurels with even bigger and better projects now lined up. ‘The elephant has been a tremendous experience and incredible hard work,’ said Andesign MD Garry Hassell. ‘But the sky is the limit for us now and we'll keep looking to create more and more incredible things. ‘You never know, we even might try to print a blue

  • With a continued looming threat of a nuclear attack from North Korea, demand for underground bunkers has been on the rise. But while even the cheapest option would set a family of two back around $25,000, The Oppidum — the world’s largest private apocalypse shelter located in a quiet valley of the Czech Republic — is right at the other end of the scale, and is how the 1 per cent might live out a doomsday scenario. This gargantuan sprawling complex set over 323,000 square-foot is a mansion, complete with the largest residential underground bunker in the world. The future owner of this property, which is located on a former military base, would be able to ride out a nuclear attack in style, with the two-tier underground quarters featuring a swimming pool and spa, wine cellar, garden with simulated natural light, cinema, library, conference room, medical and surgical facilities, and a command center with communications to the outside world. Construction began way back in 1984 over a 10 year period, but now the underground levels are in a newly-constructed shell-and-core state, with the option of customization available to prospective buyers. Czech entrepreneur Jakub Zamrazil is the man behind The Oppidum and says he is currently in negotiations with “several parties” amid a time of rising fears of a nuclear war. Mr Zamrazil says the price nor the buyer will ever be disclosed publicly — but clearly the financial cost of something on this scale would be astronomical. He came up with the name Oppidum, taken from the Latin “op-pedum” which is an “enclosed space” used to describe European fortresses as far back as the Iron Age. 11 Dec 2017 Pictured: The Oppidum — the world’s largest private apocalypse shelter located in a quiet valley of the Czech Republic — is how the 1 per cent might live out a doomsday scenario. With two days to go before the opening of the World Cup in Russia, the atmosphere of the World Cup still does not echo throughout the country and for the first time the lack of interest is evident. According to Pesquisa Datafolha, 53% of Brazilians have no interest in the Copa.Entre the reasons for the discouragement are: economic crisis, elections, corruption and the truckers strike. The number of disinterested people rose 11% in comparison with the last poll conducted in January. The study reveals that since 1994, when he first conducted the survey, that indifference was not so evident on the eve of a World Cup. About 61% of the women interviewed have no appreciation for the World Cup. Among the age groups, the largest share of disinterested people is between 35 and 44 years (57%). In the comparison between the regions, the residents of the South (59%) lead the research.
