• EXCLUSIVE: A UK TEAM OF SATELLITE HISTORIANS CLAIM TO HAVE MADE HISTORY-CHANGING DISCOVERY OF THE LOST CITY OF ATLANTIS WITH PIX AND VIDEO – LINK TO VIDEO TRAILER OF FILM MADE OF DISCOVERY http://ingeniofilms.com/elements/atlantica/ DOWNLOAD LINK TO IMAGES: https://we.tl/t-9t8GLOOvz7 By Magnus News Agency A UK team of satellite historians claim to have discovered the true location of the lost city of ATLANTIS. Ground-breaking antiquity specialists Merlin Burrows believe the ruins of the legendary civilization can be found in modern-day southern Spain. The exact location is somewhere north of the city of Cadiz, Andalucía, centred around the Doñana National Park, which the UK historians believe was once a vast inland sea. And they claim from the park south and north there is further evidence of the ancient civilisation, with 15 other settlements dotted along the coastline. Atlantis was recorded in the writings of Greek philosopher Plato who lived around 400BC. He described an advanced island civilization that ruled a vast maritime empire, some 9,000 years before his own era. The city of Atlantis at the centre of this empire was described as having, among other features, an enormous harbour wall, huge entrance pillars, a temple to the god Poseidon and massive circular pieces of land carved out by the Atlanteans to live on. It is thought a cataclysmic natural disaster, such as a tsunami or volcanic event, eventually wiped out the Atlanteans, consigning their legacy to legend. But now using unique satellite investigation techniques, aerial photography and ground observations of the site, British experts believe they have found all the features of Atlantis Plato described and evidence of how they were destroyed. Although some scholars believe Atlantis to be a myth, Merlin Burrows claim their discoveries will once and for all prove the lost civilization existed. Maritime historian Tim Akers, head of research at Merlin Burrows, said not only had they discovered Atlantis

Even for a nation known for eye-popping rates of urbanization, what has happened along China's Pearl River Delta (Zhu San Jiao)
over the past few decades is extraordinary.
In 1988, an interlacing network of rivers and streams flowed through fertile alluvial soils full of rice paddies, wheat fields, mulberry orchards, and fish ponds. At that time, the region was mostly rural, with a population of roughly 10 million people scattered between several medium-sized cities, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Dongguan. Nearly three decades later, these cities have grown so rapidly that they have merged into an interconnected megalopolis with a population (42 million) greater than that of Australia, Argentina, or Canada.
The satellite images above illustrate the dramatic growth. The bottom image was acquired by the Thematic Mapper on Landsat 5 on November 24, 1988; the top image was acquired by the Operational Land Imager on Landsat 8 on November 16, 2014. Rural areas - mainly farmland and forest - appear green. Urban areas are gray and white. Turn on the comparison tool to slide between the two images, and download the large images to observe the changes on a much finer scale.
If taken as one entity, the Pearl River Delta region has overtaken Tokyo as the world's largest urban area - by size and population - according to an analysis of satellite and demographic data published by the World Bank. Between 2000 and 2010, the Pearl River Delta's urban spaces - defined as areas where the built environment covered more than 50 percent of the landscape in a given pixel - had expanded from 4,500 square kilometers to 7,000 square kilometers. (In 2010, Tokyo had a population of about 32 million people and covered about 5,600 square kilometers.) In the study, researchers used satellite data collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and land cover data from the Landsat program. They also used demographic data pr

 • If a volcano erupts and there is no one there to see it, did it really erupt? Before the advent of satellites and seismic monitoring, volcanic eruptions in distant places would mostly go unnoticed unless they were absolutely extraordinary. Today, scientists can pick up signatures of events occurring far from any human observers.
That was the case in late April and early May 2016 when satellite sensors detected signs of a volcanic eruption in the far South Atlantic Ocean between South America and Antarctica. Mount Sourabaya, a stratovolcano on Bristol Island, appeared to be erupting for the first time in 60 years. There are no human residents of the island, which is almost always covered in glacial ice and snow.
The Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite acquired these two false-color images on April 24 and May 1, 2016. The images were built from a combination of shortwave-infrared, near-infrared, and red light (Landsat bands 6-5-4) that helps detect the heat signatures of an eruption. Both images show the heat signatures (red-orange) of what is likely hot lava, while white plumes trail away from the crater. The band combination makes the ice cover of the island appear bright blue-green.
With a roughly rectangular shape that is 12 kilometers by 14 kilometers (7 by 8.5 miles), Bristol Island is one of the largest in the South Sandwich Islands chain. The highest peak on the island stands 1100 meters (3,609 feet) above sea level. Due to the remote location and the lack of landing sites amidst its ice cap, the stratovolcano is one of the least studied in the world. The last known eruption on Bristol Island was reported in 1956.
• Satellites often observe dust swirling over remote and unpopulated deserts but most of these events go largely unnoticed. Not so with the major dust storm that made international news in September 2015 for enveloping heavily-populated areas in the Middle East and North Africa.
Dust first emerged in Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite imagery in Syria on September 6, 2015. By September 7 (top image), a thick plume swept across Syria, the Mafraq region of Jordan, and part of Turkey's Mediterranean coast. By September 8 (bottom image), dust had enveloped all of Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Cyprus, and the Palestinian Territories. By September 9, it had moved southwest and spread over northeastern Egypt and the Gulf of Suez.
The influx of dust triggered a rash of canceled flights, closed ports, and a suspension of daily activities for many people. In several countries, authorities are advising the elderly and young children to stay indoors. The number of people visiting hospitals with respiratory problems has increased significantly, and several deaths have been attributed to the dust, according to media reports.
While satellites observe the dust from above, air quality sensors on the ground are recording remarkable amounts of particulate matter in surface air. In Jerusalem, pollution levels were 173 times higher than average, according to one news report. A sun photometer at the Sede Boker AERONET station in southern Israel showed a dramatic increase in aerosol optical depth (AOD) - a measure of how much sunlight is scattered by particles in the atmosphere.
"Satellite instruments, particularly MODIS, have revolutionized the scientific community's ability to understand the spatial extent, transport pathways, and the source areas of dust storms," explained Thomas Gill, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Texas at El Paso. "Largely because of MODIS, we now have a much better understanding of what specific kinds of landforms and landscapes

 • July 30, 2015 - SOL SYSTEM Earth -- 30 Jul 2015 -- NASA DSCOVR probe sends back spectacular image of Europe and Africa from space...Africa and most of southern Europe feature in this image of Earth released today by NASA - from a camera on the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite. The image, taken July 6 from a vantage point one million miles from Earth, was one of the first taken by NASA Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC). Central Europe is toward the top of the image with the Sahara Desert to the south, showing the Nile River flowing to the Mediterranean Sea through Egypt. The photographic-quality color image was generated by combining three separate images of the entire Earth taken a few minutes apart. The camera takes a series of 10 images using different narrowband filters -- from ultraviolet to near infrared -- to produce a variety of science products. The red, green and blue channel images are used in these Earth images. The DSCOVR mission is a partnership between NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Air Force, with the primary objective to maintain the nation real-time solar wind monitoring capabilities, which are critical to the accuracy and lead time of space weather alerts and forecasts from NOAA. DSCOVR was launched in February to its planned orbit at the first Lagrange point or L1, about one million miles from Earth toward the sun. It from that unique vantage point that the EPIC instrument is acquiring images of the entire sunlit face of Earth. Data from EPIC will be used to measure ozone and aerosol levels in Earth atmosphere, cloud height, vegetation properties and a variety of other features -- Picture by NASA/NASA (Credit Image: © /NASA via ZUMA Press)
