  • August 3, 2017 - inconnu - A solar-powered lamp inspired by the inventor’s love of origami is bringing light to remote Third World communities and disaster zones. The collapsible SolarPuff by Solight Design is also an eco-friendly alternative to kerosene lanterns in an effort to reduce pollution. It was created by designer Professor Alice Chun after seven years of research. The flat-pack light is made of a recyclable sailcloth material and 10 bright LEDs that charge in the sun, resulting in 8-12 hours of light. There are three settings: low, high, and blinking for relief or distress. The light is waterproof and floats, and can withstand most climates. To activate it, users simply twist and pull up and use a slight push to deflate.Through Professor Chun’s charitable organisation, Focus of Architecture Art Relief Making, she helps needy communities around the globe through sustainable design and architectural solutions that will better their society, reduce pollution. It was created to be helpful in communities with no electricity, refugee camps, disaster or war zones, and other locations where pollutants are the only alternative.Prof Chun said she wanted to solve an important issue where more than a billion people around the world still don’t have good access to reliable and proper lighting. Combining her knowledge, and her love for origami, the Japanese art of paper folding , the inflatable lamp was born.It is also great for campers and hikers. Each lamp costs around $30 USD / €25 Euros / £22 GBP # LAMPE A ENERGIE SOLAIRE (Credit Image: © Visual via ZUMA Press)
