Five people, including an Indian armys paratrooper and four Kashmiri rebels of Hizbul Mujahideen group, Kashmiris largest militant organization, were killed in a brief gunfight between Indian government forces and Kashmiri rebels, in the Nadigam village of south Kashmirs Shopian district on Tuesday. The slain were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Nazir Ahmed Wani. India has announced local body polls in the region from October 8 but major pro Indian parties Including the NC have  decided to boycott  the polls over what they term New Delhi's attempt to alter the demography of the disputed Himalyan region .
