  • August 11, 2016 - Lesvos, Greece - Piles of lifejackets in Lesvos island, about 10m high on 11 August 2016. Cheap and crappy lifejackets were sold in Turkey. About 500.000 lifejackets are gathered here near Molivos in Lesvos island from the 2015 arrivals. Also the Chinese Ai Weiwei artist took many of them in Berlin and exhibited them in a public building. Thousands of people drawned between Greece and Turkey as the dinghies were in bad condition and the lifejackets didn't work.   • October 29, 2015 - Lesbos, Greece - Syrian and many Afghan migrants / refugees arrive from Turkey on boat through sea with cold water near Molyvos, Lesbos on overloaded dinghies. Leaving Syria or Afghanistan or Iraq because of the war. They are all trying to reach northern Europe like Germany or Sweden. In October of 2015 the average arrival of refugees in Greece was about 5500 people per day. There were days with 7000 people on low quality boats. Also many people died as their boat / dinghy sunk or run out of fuel and they were exhausted on overloaded boats.   • September 30, 2018 - Thessaloniki, Greece - Protest against FYROM (Macedonia) name change takes place in Thessaloniki city, capital of Macedonia province in Greece as same time people in FYROM (Macedonia) head to the polls to vote for the referendum on their country’s name change to Northern Macedonia after having a deal with Greece. The officially name of this Balkan state will change from FYROM, Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia to the Republic of North Macedonia, bearing a similar name to a region in Greece. Greece asked for constitutional change and clearing territorial expansionist ambitions in exchange of the name recognition and an invitation for EU and NATO. Protesters happily ended the protest with the first exit polls, showing abstention of the polls greater than 50%, fact that the referendum can not be valid. They don't want to stay here but to continue their trip to central and northern Europe. Many of them mention the welfare privilages. Others complaint about the living conditions and that they are not allowed to work in Greece in contrast with Turkey that they were working for a few pennies.   • August 17, 2017 - Thessaloniki, Greece - Refugees are protesting in Diavata Camp (Former Anagnostopoulou military camp), in Thessaloniki, Greece, on August 17, 2017. They blocked the entrance and rushed out all the government and  ngo employees including army and police. Refugees and migrants are from Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kurdish in this camp. They are protesting because in the transformed house containers that they live, more people will come. The camp hosts about 350 people with AC, kitchen, WC in each container and the number of the guests can be expanded at least for more 20%. The government is bringing , actually relocation from camps in bad conditions from the islands, 27 people by bus to this camp. Each container house can host 6 people. For the moment in most of the houses live 4 people. Refugees even denied to reunite their families that hold two containers. The ministry arranged a few empty containers but refugees and migrants still keep protesting. Other demands from the refugees are to leave the camp and live in house, relocate to European countries like Germany and organize a school in the camp for little children. Local authorities and police are blocked outside of the camp. The temperature in the camp is about  36°C right now and they still stay outside.
