  • Indian doctors were at their wit’s end after excising as many as 500 teeth from a seven-year-old’s palate in Chennai, India. The young patient was only three when his lower right jaw started to swell up but was left undiagnosed for four years as his parents lacked the right knowledge. The doctors diagnosed it to be a rare case of "compound composite ondontome", the boy was brought to the hospital with a swelling in his lower right jaw. "Later as swelling increased, the parents brought the boy to our hospital," said P.Senthilnathan, Professor -Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at at the Saveetha Dental College and Hospital on Wednesday. According to the doctors, the patient's family was worried that the swelling was carcinogenic. An X-ray and CT-scan of the boy's lower right jaw showed a lot of rudimentary teeth following which the doctors decided on the surgery. A team of doctors operated on the boy for five-long hours and successfully removed 526 teeth-like structures from his mouth. "We opened up the jaw after administering general anaesthesia and saw a bag/sack inside it. The sack, weighing about 200 grams, was carefully removed and was later found to contain 526 teeth -- small, medium and big sized,” said Dr Senthilnathan. Dr. Pratibha Ramani, Professor and Head of Department of oral and maxillofacial pathology, said, “Social consciousness on emerging environmental hazards is imperative. Every tissue information is patient’s right, surgical decision making is the key and final diagnostic expert is the pathologist.” According to the doctors, this is the first ever case documented in the world in which in an individual has been found to have so many minute teeth. Though some were very tiny particles, the doctors said, they had the properties of teeth. It took five long hours for the doctors to remove all the minute teeth from the sack. • August 3, 2017 - New York City, New York, United States of America - During a public “Ivory Crush” organized by the Department of Environmental Commission (DEC), the Wildlife Conservation Society, Tiffany & Co., and environmental groups, such as 96 Elephants (the estimated number of elephants slaughtered daily), some two tons of confiscated Ivory, with a value of $8.5 million USD was crushed in NYC’s Central Park. In 2014, New York State passed a law making the trade of Ivory items a class D felony, except in certain cases with state approval. Despite this, New York City is the nation's largest port of entry for illegal wildlife goods, according to state officials..Investigative Lieutenant Jesse Paluch of the NYS DEC Department of Environmental Crimes Investigations adds that what was crushed today “was the culmination of three years of investigations and the execution of 12 search warrants”. He further adds “we want to show that the ivory on the animal is priceless, but worthless in this form as a consumer good”. Mary Dixon of WCS says “we would like to send a message to poachers and anyone involved in the illegal ivory trade that we will no longer tolerate this”. WCS works in 60 countries worldwide and works to stop animal trafficking. Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac was among the guests in attendance. (Credit Image: © Sachelle Babbar via ZUMA Wire)

  • EXCLUSIVE: It was a murder that stunned the world and has now being dramatised in Foxtel’s glitzy The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. The inside details of the killing by FBI fugitive Andrew Cunanan have been revealed by detective Carlos Noriega, former commander of Miami Beach PD’s violent crime squad. And he has shared, for the first time, Miami Beach Police Department’s own dossier on the murder – The Versace Files. They reveal emotive details about the investigation and the 14-page police interview transcript from the only full witness to the horror. Noriega believes the victim, who entertained Princess Diana and Sir Elton John at the mansion where he was murdered, was killed by Cunanan in ‘some kind of vendetta’. The cop also describes the ‘pressure cooker’ manhunt as detectives battled to follow more than 1,000 tip-offs during the eight-day dragnet for Versace’s murderer. He reveals how he was one of the first to discover Cunanan’s half naked body in a houseboat after the killer shot himself. *** Full copy available on request. 26 Apr 2018 Pictured: detective Carlos Noriega. • June 16, 2017 - London, UK - London, UK. 16th June 2017. Around a thousand protesters met outside the Department for Communities and Local Government calling for urgent action to identify those responsible for the unsafe state of Grenfell Tower which led to the horrific fire in which over 150 people were burnt to death. Speakers included Matt Wrack, Fire Brigades Union General Secretary, local residents who had witnessed the deaths, housing activists who have long called for social housing to meet the same safety standards as private developments and Stand Up to Racism, and there was a silence in solidarity with the dead and injured. After the rally they marched to Downing St, demanding the resignation of Theresa May and former housing minister Gavin Barwell who failed to implement the recommendations made after a previous London fire disaster.
