  • zReportage.com Story of the Week # 638 - Colombia's 'Lost City Of Marijuana'- Launched August 1, 2017 - Full multimedia experience: audio, stills, text and or video: Go to zReportage.com to see more - In Colombia, a 50 year civil war has wracked the region, between the Colombian army and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. The lack of infrastructure, transportation, and basic amenities has led to the only money for many local farmers being fields of cannabis. As the war has left the hills of the Toribío region in southwestern Colombia, an off-limits zone for authorities, the black market fields have expanded, lighting up the night sky. Now with rebels gone, Colombia is diving into the pot industry. The jungle around Toribio so-called 'lost city of marijuana' is filled with vast pot plantations that stretch as far as the eye can see. At night, the greenhouse lights glow like a sea of bioluminescent plankton. Historically, Colombia has received billions of dollars in American aid to end the drug trade, but now the government has begun giving licenses to some small overseas companies, under a new law that allows the cultivation of medical marijuana in a cannabis cooperative and in turn giving illegal growers a chance to come clean. • EXCLUSIVE: *NO WEB UNTIL 11PM BST SEPT 2ND* The dramatic moment British ‘drugs baron’ Andrew Deamer is arrested in Colombia for allegedly smuggling cocaine worth £345 million hidden in DOG FOOD. Deamer, 52, now faces 14 years in a Colombian prison after being seized in a dramatic 6am raid on his isolated home outside Medellin - the city made infamous by infamous cartel boss Pablo Escobar. The Brit is now in Bogota’s infamous La Picota prison after signing a ‘pre-agreement’ to accept a sentence of 14 years and eight months in return for co-operating with authorities to "name names.' Deamer, originally from Barrow upon Soar, Leics, ran a syndicate that converted at least 2.5 tons of cocaine into a substance that resembled dog food, down to the look, smell and texture, say Colombian authorities. He was snared by anti-narcotics agents backed up by Colombian army and navy troops. Deamer is seen climbing down from his attic bolt-hole after being busted in a dramatic 6am raid by Colombian forces. Wearing shorts and T-shirt, he had darted into the secret hideaway after realising anti-narcotics agents and army and navy troops were closing in on his remote farmhouse. His capture was videoed by The Fiscalia, Colombia’s Office of the Attorney General. Deamer, who also spent time living in Florida, is said to have recruited specialist chemists for the cocaine transformation and they followed the shipments to Europe to extract the cocaine at the destinations. His second wife, Colombian Marcela Zapata, 37, was arrested with him. 02 Sep 2018 Pictured: Arrest of Andrew Deamer. Photo credit: Greg Woodfield / MEGA TheMegaAgency.com +1 888 505 6342

  • April 14, 2017 - Bogota, Colombia - Pilgrimages and processions are still an essential part of Holy Week in Bogota, Colombia, on 14 April, 2017. Commercial exploits of the Catholic holiday have yet to manifest here – the Easter egg and Easter bunny are unquestionably overseas customs. In Colombia, as in most countries in Latin-America, Catholicism is by far the prevailing creed among the local population. A lot of people will be attending religious services during the holy days. Some communities would have invested a lot time and effort preparing for the special celebrations of the Holy Week, and in particular for the processions taking place on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Many churches in La Candelaria have carried out these processions for centuries and they are quite interesting to watch, even if you are not catholic. One of the most famous Good Friday celebrations in Bogota takes place in the parish of ‘Nuetra Señora de Egipto´ (a few blocks east from La Candelaria) where local parishioners give life to the characters of the Gospel and enact the last hours of Jesus before the crucifixion. To position the colombian capital as an international fashion center, the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá (CCB) created Bogotá Fashion Week (BFW), a new business platform that wishes to unite efforts with multiple national and international stakeholders to promote the creative talents of emerging Colombian designers, position their brands and expand their market. This initiative adds to the CCB's gamble to support and strengthen the creative industries that began over 11 years ago with business platforms such as ARTBO, Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM) and Bogotá Music Market (BOmm), which are known benchmarks in Colombia and Latin America.
