  • A world record breaking elephant sculpture stopped people in their tracks on a suburban street as passers-by stopped for a closer look. The almost four-metre-tall beast — mounted outside a printing company in Birmingham, UK — is destined to set a new record as the biggest animal sculpture created by a 3D printing machine. The technological marvel is perfectly life like, though larger than most elephants in the wild and as a permanent sculpture, is set to become a new landmark for the UK’s second. largest city. The animal is mounted high on the wall of creative print company, Andesign, and is shown smashing through the building's brickwork out onto the street. Unveiled by Sutton Coldfield MP Andrew Mitchell, a crowd of 100 gathered to see the spectacular pachyderm revealed to the public for the first time. Mr Mitchell said of the sculpture: ‘This is a properly astonishing spectacle and a measure of the great ingenuity that typifies British industry and the very clever creative people who work here. Isn't it incredible what has been achieved with a print machine ? ‘In fact, it's so lifelike that my dog is completely terrified to come out of the car or anywhere near the thing.’ The African elephant was created by the world's biggest and fastest 3D printing machine, which can duplicate absolutely any object imaginable in the tiniest detail by printing line upon line of a special resin. The as yet unnamed elephant was created over five days of continuous printing and is the biggest animal ever created by a printing machine. Delighted bosses at Andesign await confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records but are refusing to rest on their laurels with even bigger and better projects now lined up. ‘The elephant has been a tremendous experience and incredible hard work,’ said Andesign MD Garry Hassell. ‘But the sky is the limit for us now and we'll keep looking to create more and more incredible things. ‘You never know, we even might try to print a blue

  • F*** you little bear! This is the adorable Paddington Bear Christmas commercial courting controversy in the UK. The treasured children’s character is the star of the new festive advert for luxury retailer Marks and Spencer. The ad campaign for Christmas 2017 comes days before the world premiere of Paddington 2, starring an all-star British cast including Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley. But it has some viewers wondering if Paddington has a potty mouth. In the ad it’s Christmas Eve and Paddington is fast asleep but his dreams of marmalade are interrupted by a loud thud on the roof. Upon investigation, he stumbles upon a burglar and despite the burglar’s protests that he is “not Santa” the determined and good-natured bear begins to ‘help’ him deliver the presents back to where they belong. The ad is meant to end with the burglar having seen the error of his ways and thanking Paddington for the help. Viewers, however, have complained they hear the burglar saying something rather rude. As he leans in to give Paddington a grateful embrace, he whispers 'thank you little bear' in his ear. But hundreds of people watching the advert when it aired for the first time on Tuesday heard something rather different, “F*** you little bear!” A spokesperson for Marks and Spencer has said the company has no plans on changing the ad’s ending despite the complaints. The spokesperson said: “He’s saying ‘Thank you little bear” it is really clear and we won’t be changing the ad.” Twitter, however, disagrees with thousands online posting their comments about the blue ending. • South Africa - Cape Town - 12 October 2020 - A women wearing a protective mask drives past Vladimir Tretchikoff’s ‘Chinese Girl’, located on the corner of Plein and Drostdy streets in Stellenbosch. Masked Masterpieces, a compelling outdoors arts initiative sponsored by private individuals and companies, has taken the shape of a supersized and striking visual reflection on the challenges of our time. This is part of a public art initiative launched in Stellenbosch earlier this year and presents large scale reproductions of portraits by some of South Africa’s most renowned artists. Dotted across numerous galleries and museums throughout Stellenbosch, the Masked Masterpieces are driven by Stellenbosch University bursary students in the ‘missing middle’ category, studying at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. To support these students, who have been affected financially by COVID-19, they encourage residents and visitors to contribute to the bursary fund.  The masked concept was inspired by Banksy (the British street artist famed for his wry urban art interventions), who is believed to have recently added a mask to his rendition of Vermeer’s masterpiece Girl with a Pearl Earring.
