  • Tourists now have the chance to take the ultimate holiday snap — by coming face-to-face with a killer crocodile. The Cage of Death attraction based at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin, Australia, sees thrill seekers submerged into an aquatic enclosure with a 16ft saltwater beast called Chopper while sat inside a plastic cylindrical cage. The 30 minute encounter — which costs $170 AUD for one person and $260 AUD for two people — starts with up to two people per cage being hoisted over the water to see the croc swirling below. A keeper then feeds the reptile as the cage is lowered, so the participants can see the crocodile barreling towards them underwater. These photos show tourists posing up a storm while submerged in the tank as the croc swims around them. One frame in particular captures the ominous scratch marks all over the cage — proving tourists really are looking into the jaws of death. After 15 minutes underwater the cage, which operates via an overhead monorail, is lifted to safety. German tourist Nellie Winters told local media: “I was scared but I was fascinated as well. I kept thinking he was going to eat me. You are right next to him and you sometimes forget that there are cages around you. 'You're that close that you think you could swim next to him and, yeah, he could also eat you, even though he won’t.” The Saltwater crocodile — the largest of its kind — can grow up to 20ft long with teeth as long as 4in. In the wild they are found across the north of Australia and are also native to India and other areas of south-east Asia. Crocosaurus Cove has a total of seven crocodiles, including a breeding pair called William and Kate, named after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Cage Of Death has been running since 2011 and other attractions at the park include visitors being given the opportunity to hold baby crocodiles. 08 Sep 2017 Pictured: Thrill-seeking tourists come face-to-face with a killer 16ft Saltwater crocodile at Crocosaurus Cove

  • EXCLUSIVE: An epic clash of the titans has been caught on camera which saw one angry rhino mum scare off 15 ELEPHANTS Carpenter Martin Meyer was visiting a national park in South Africa when he spotted a rhino mum with her young calf. Martin has been visiting the park for 20 years on and off and often drives there for a ‘builder’s break’ between jobs. But never in all the years he’s been visiting had he seen anything like this before, when one rhino mum faced-off against a whole herd of elephants. Martin’s amazing images were taken around 4.20pm when he came across the brewing confrontation. Martin, who is not naming the park to protect the rhino mother, said: “Armed with an incredibly beautiful horn and her motherly instinct the mother rhino stood her ground and protected the calf, although she was completely outnumbered by the elephants. “A herd of about 15 elephants consisting of a matriarch and a few youngsters and a few sub adult bulls were approaching and going to cross the path of the mum and the calf. “The rhino mum looked intently in their direction and the ellies seemed oblivious to her and the calf and kept encroaching on her personal space. “When they were around 20 metres away from her position she exploded into a sprint with the baby following and ran directly towards the elephants sending them scattering in all directions, with a massive cloud of dust as a result. “After recovering from the initial shock the elephant herd regrouped and aligned themselves next to one another to slowly move closer to the rhino mum, almost taunting her. Some of the young bulls even moved around and circled them from behind.” More than three minutes of stand-off followed as the stare down continued between the rhino mother and the matriarch of the ellies. Martin said: “My adrenaline was pumping and I was holding my breath for what might happen next, my wife always jokes with me that I stop breathing when I see special stuff in the bush. “As the d

“As the d

  • EXCLUSIVE: Each week on Friday, Tarik Chenafa sat in the same place at the Masjid Al Noor mosque - under the huge window on the north-west side. The Algerian immigrant had fled to Christchurch to escape civil war in his own country in the 1990s. As a teenager in the army there, he'd learned about guns. Later, watching massacres in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States from afar, he learned about hatred. "When I see what happened in too many mosque in other countries… I knew one day someone will do the same to us," he told the Herald from his living room in Wigram, ten minutes from the city centre. "I told management here, we need security but they thought it will never happen. So I sat by the window because I thought one day I will need to go out the window." It was 1.40pm when he heard the first bullet. The imam was ten minutes into his half-hour speech about friendship, and love. The mosque was full to overflowing, worshippers piled into the hallway as well as the prayer room. The women were, as usual, in the separate area to the right of the entryway. Usually, Chenafa, 54, brought his children to the mosque with him. His daughter, Norhan, 4, liked to play near the door where the gunman first started shooting. "I'm lucky I didn't take my daughter with me. I thank God. I thank God," he said. 15 Mar 2019 Pictured: Tarik Chenafa. Photo credit: NZ Herald / MEGA TheMegaAgency.com +1 888 505 6342
