• Alessandra Ambrosio is seen here in behind the scenes photos on the set of the latest LASCANA swimwear and lingerie shoot. The 37-year-old model is captured posing up a storm for the Spring/ Summer 2018 collection, which she took part in after being announced as a new brand ambassador. In an interview to accompany the shoot the mother-of-two — who called off her 10-year engagement to Jamie Mazur back in March — said: “I think LASCANA’s campaign and their philosophy ‘it’s a woman’s world’ is about empowering women to feel good and confident to do whatever they want, to follow their dreams and to accomplish them and to be happy. I can definitely identify with this.” She went on: “I think we learn from everything that we do. Of course there are things I’ve done that were wrong but I feel like these things teach you to be the way you want be. “There are certain things in my life that maybe I wouldn’t have done again in retrospect. But I feel like you have to do some things wrong to learn from them. Everyone is human, everyone makes mistakes but those mistakes are what make you learn and make you stronger. “Life is about learning every day, it’s about experiencing things. That’s the beauty of life; it’s a learning process the whole time.”. 16 May 2018 Pictured: Alessandra Ambrosio in behind the scenes photos from a new campaign for LASCANA after being announced as the brand ambassador for the international Spring/ Summer 2018 collection. • EXCLUSIVE: A 10-year-old girl suffering from a rare skin disorder is gradually turning into a stone. Scutes shaped as barks -- caused due to mutation of genes -- have spread all over her body. Rajeshwari, hailing from a tribal area in Dantewada district of north Indian state of Chhattisgarh suffers from a case of ichthyosis that causes reddening, scaling and severe blistering of the skin. The incurable disease affects the process of skin regeneration in the human body, making it hard and flaky. Visuals show a heart-wrenching sight of Rajeshwari sitting under a thatched hut with blisters almost covering her whole body. Though the disease doesn't pose any risk to her life, it has made a life 'a living hell'. The disease hinders her daily life, making even simple activities such as walking and sitting very painful. According to reports, the rare genetic condition affects very few people and till now only two dozen cases have been reported in the world. The rarity of the case makes research difficult and the medicine to control the incurable disease has severe side effects. For people residing in the Naxal infested area, availing simple health care is already a mean feat and Rajeshwari's condition requires her to travel to a big city which is difficult for the time being. when doctors were shown the patient's case file, few of them came forward to express their opinions and diagnosis. Speaking about her condition, Dr.Satyaki Ganguly, Associate Professor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS), Raipur, said “ The medical term for this genetic disorder is Ichthyosis Psoriasis and due to very few cases in India, there has not been any major breakthrough in terms of research. Currently, science has no cure for this ailment.” Another dermatologist has another take on Rajeshwari’s case, Dr.Yash Upender from Dantewada Hospital believes that the girl suffers from Epidermolytic Ichthyosis which is not a life threatening disease but is still uncurable. • With a continued looming threat of a nuclear attack from North Korea, demand for underground bunkers has been on the rise. But while even the cheapest option would set a family of two back around $25,000, The Oppidum — the world’s largest private apocalypse shelter located in a quiet valley of the Czech Republic — is right at the other end of the scale, and is how the 1 per cent might live out a doomsday scenario. This gargantuan sprawling complex set over 323,000 square-foot is a mansion, complete with the largest residential underground bunker in the world. The future owner of this property, which is located on a former military base, would be able to ride out a nuclear attack in style, with the two-tier underground quarters featuring a swimming pool and spa, wine cellar, garden with simulated natural light, cinema, library, conference room, medical and surgical facilities, and a command center with communications to the outside world. Construction began way back in 1984 over a 10 year period, but now the underground levels are in a newly-constructed shell-and-core state, with the option of customization available to prospective buyers. Czech entrepreneur Jakub Zamrazil is the man behind The Oppidum and says he is currently in negotiations with “several parties” amid a time of rising fears of a nuclear war. Mr Zamrazil says the price nor the buyer will ever be disclosed publicly — but clearly the financial cost of something on this scale would be astronomical. He came up with the name Oppidum, taken from the Latin “op-pedum” which is an “enclosed space” used to describe European fortresses as far back as the Iron Age. 11 Dec 2017 Pictured: The Oppidum — the world’s largest private apocalypse shelter located in a quiet valley of the Czech Republic — is how the 1 per cent might live out a doomsday scenario. The Ashegoda Wind Farm, built by the French companies Vergnet and Alstom, is a 'clean' development in one of the world's poorest nations.
Like the vast majority of Ethiopians, Redaie must still settle for charcoal and 'cow wood' (dried cowpat) when he wants to cook his meals or have warm water. The power produced by the Ashegoda complex, which runs along underground cables before reaching the national network's high voltage lines, is still too expensive for him.
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, under construction on the Blue Nile River and a source of tension with the country's Egyptian and Sudanese neighbors, nevertheless promises to be one of Africa's most powerful hydroelectric monsters. Government officials contributed to its funding, which will be covered by national reserves.
The country is trying to create 'a green economy that will hold up to the climate,' which requires the involvement of every sector responsible or vulnerable to climate change. That means energy, of course, but also agriculture, transport, industry and construction. 'Climate change is a strategic issue for Ethiopia,' the preamble to this project statement says. • August 17, 2016 - Aleppo, Syria - HOMELESS: Five-year-old wounded Syrian boy OMRAN DAQNEESH sits alone and silent, with a bloodied face sitting in the back of an ambulance after he sustained injuries during an airstrike. Daqneesh was injured, in an alleged Russian Air Force strike on the rebel-held al-Qaterji neighborhood of Aleppo. Omran suffered a wound to his head and was taken to a hospital known as M10 and later discharged. Daqneesh was rescued with his parents and three siblings, then aged one, six, and ten. His 10-year-old brother, Ali, died on August 20, 2016, of his injuries. The apartment building collapsed shortly after the family was rescued. Eight people died in the air strike, including five children. Caked in dust, Omran is one of the thousands of Syrian children caught in an endless war. Aleppo, the northern Syrian city, for years has been a battleground between government and opposition forces in this endless Civil War. The eastern section, where civilians live in dire conditions, has been shredded by barrel bombs and airstrikes. Omran Daqneesh, silent and in shock in the back of an ambulance, the left side of his face is smeared with blood. He doesn’t make a sound. (Credit: © Mahmoud Rslan/Aleppo Media Center via ZUMA Wire)

This collection looks back, but also forward – it explores the codes of the brand, the identity I’ve built up over the ten years since my first show. Fluid lines, a mix of masculine and feminine, print, an arresting mix of unusual colours – these are our codes.

It’s also a collection about choice – there are slender and wide trousers, midi and full-length skirts, eased shapes and fitted forms. Brocade and satin, tailoring and fluidity. There’s a lightness throughout, that feels modern.
