May 7, 2011 - Tampa, FL, USA - TP_338258_CERR_BEAM (05/07/11, Tampa) Ryan Gussman, 8, of Tampa, reaches out to touch a steel beam from the World Trade Center with the help of his father, Tony Gussman. Tony and Barbara Gussman brought their son to see the piece of the World Trade Center that was donated to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and on display at Westfield Citrus Park Mall Saturday. ''He wasn't born when this happened,'' said Barbara. ''They haven't talked about it in school.'' Tony said that his son was ''touching a piece of history.'' The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey donated the 13-foot-long steel beam, which weighs 1,471 pounds, as a 9/11 memorial, said Larry McKinnon, a Sheriff's Office spokesman. Two deputies recently traveled to New York to bring the beam to Tampa. It is one of about 1,200 pieces of steel from the twin towers that was donated to law enforcement agencies and fire departments around the country. The beam will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Westfield Brandon Mall. [LARA CERRI, Times] (Credit Image: © Lara Cerri/Tampa Bay Times/ZUMAPRESS.com)
