Italy: Pope Francis leads Way of the Cross
Add to Lightbox DownloadApril 14, 2017 - Rome, Italy - Pope Francis leads the Way of the Cross (Via Crucis in Latin) celebrated at the Colosseum on Good Friday as part of the Easter Holy week celebrations in Rome, Italy. The Way of the Cross is part of the Easter tradition in Catholic countries. It takes place on Good Friday and commemorates the passion and death of Jesus Christ through the reading of prayers along a path of 14 stations. The stations all refer to different stages of Jesus' last journey to the Golgotha. In Rome, the traditional Via Crucis takes place at the ancient Colosseum amphitheater.
