Bill and Melinda Gates have purchased a stunning oceanfront property in Del Mar, California, for $43 million.

Bill and Melinda Gates have found themselves a perfect pandemic retreat after purchasing a $43 million oceanfront mansion in California. The stunning six-bedroom, four-bathroom property is set over 5,800-square-foot and located in the picturesque coastal town of Del Mar, near San Diego. The sale, which closed on March 27, set a new record by some $8 million for the largest residential sale in the area’s history. Microsoft co-founder Gates, 64, purchased the property from Madeleine Pickens, a former wife of the billionaire oil baron T. Boone Pickens. The property was initially listed for $48million after landing on the market back in January 2019. The listing was held by Brian Guiltinan of The Guiltinan Group. The exquisite oceanfront property was built in 1999 by architect and designer Ken Ronchetti and according to the listing the house is considered ‘one of the most prominent coastal contemporary beach homes on the West Coast’. It comes complete with 120 feet of private ocean frontage, with panoramic windows in the living space opening to the patio and offering stunning ocean views. There are also wooden ceilings throughout and a stunning pool looking out to the ocean. The Gates’ new purchase is just the latest addition to their impressive property portfolio. Their man residence is a compound in Medina, Washington. They also own a horse property in nearby Rancho Santa Fe which they purchased several years ago for $18 million from weight loss guru Jenny Craig.
