This is the baby boy thought to be the smallest in the world to have been successfully treated. The tiny tot - who weighed just 268g at birth - has been released from hospital in Japan. He was born by emergency C-section in August at 24 weeks, and was so small he could fit into a pair of cupped hands. But after five months of treatment, he now weighs 3.23kg is feeding normally, and has now been discharged from hospital. Dr Takeshi Arimitsu of Tokyo's Keio University Hospital said: “I want people to know that babies can return home vigorous even if they are born small." "I can only say I'm happy that he has grown this big because honestly, I wasn't sure he could survive," the boy's mother said, according to the hospital. The infant was nurtured in intensive care until he was released last week, two months after his due date. The previous record-holder was a boy born in Germany, weighing just 274g.
