Add to Lightbox DownloadAugust 8, 2017 - Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia - A full moon during the peak of the penumbral eclipse is seen from North Sumatra early August 8, 2017, Indonesia. The lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its umbra. This can happen only when the sun, earth, and moon are exactly aligned, or very close, with the Earth in the middle. There are three types - total, partial and penumbral.
