  • August 9, 2017 - inconnu - A car tyre inspired by the structure of human bones which does not need air, has been unveiled by manufacturer Kumho.Called Birth of Nature the design mimics the honeycomb-like architecture seen in bone under the microscope.The shape is also found in leaf cells.It achieves the required level of structural stability and eefficiency without the need for any form of inflation.The tyre has the ability to soak up bumps, always springing back into shape.The design has won the South Korean tyre manufacturer a prize by being named as a finalist in the automotive and transport category of America’s International Design Excellence Awards.Kumho’s R&D chief Jeong Taek-Gyun said: “It is very rewarding that Kumho’s latest example of futuristic design and technology has been recognised.”It means Kumho has also become the first passenger tyre manufacturer to win all three of the world’s top design accolades – Germany’s Red Dot and iF Design and America’s IDEA awards - two years in a row. # PNEU DE VOITURE SANS AIR (Credit Image: © Visual via ZUMA Press)

  • August 9, 2017 - inconnu - Here’s a farm for the big city – which fits on the back of a bicycle.The idea is to bring the experinces of urban farming to a larger community.The aptly named Bike Share Farm is a solar-powered planting system on wheels. Placed a top two interconnected bicycles, the hydroponic farm can be ridden from place to placeIt was inspired by bike share systems now prevalent in many major cities.The frame of the Bike Share Farm also allows for bicycles to be interchangeable.At each stop a new cyclist can attach his bike to the structure, replacing the existing bike. It was created by China’s People's Industrial Design Office , known as PIDO .A team designed and built it during a 72 hour hack-athon in Seoul , South Korea organised by Art Center Nabi. The project asked people to consider the theme of sharing technology and ecologvy in large conurbations.Design rofessionals were asked to generate ideas on urban and ecological issues. Seoul is a massive city with many high-rise buildings but fe garden spaces for the I habitants.
