  • June 6, 2017 - inconnu - A breakthrough 3D printer has been unveiled which can work like a production line using a conveyor.Currently 3D printers use a stationary print bed.Printing long objects would take several print runs and some glue. The BlackBelt from Stephan Schürmann replaces the print bed of old with a conveyor belt, which allows for continuous printing. It easily surpassed a €50,000 Euros goal on crowd-funding site Kickstarter on the first day of its month-long campaign. The BlackBelt has been 3 years in development and is production ready. It has carbon fibre composite conveyor belt that allows for continuous printing of long objects, with the option of going even longer by adding a roller module. It can also create continuous batch production of smaller single build parts, like a factory production line. The build area is given as 340 mm wide, 340 mm high and an infinite length, and the interchangeable print heads can be set at four different angles. That means creators don't need to rely on support structures for overhangs in complex prints. Its Dutch-based maker says that the BlackBelt can be made available as either a desktop unit or a floor-standing machine, and can be customized to match buyer needs. The pre-production prototype has been tested with three types of print plastics though Schürmann does suggest that other materials may be supported. The expected retail price is €9,500 Euros for a desktop model, or €12,500 Euros for a freestanding version, but significant reductions are being offered to Kickstarter backers. Delivery is estimated to start in October. # IMPRIMANTE 3D INDUSTRIELLE (Credit Image: © Visual via ZUMA Press)

  • June 6, 2017 - inconnu - A hammock that can be mounted on a car roof is set to make exploring a more comfortable experience. The US-designed TrailNest collapsible roof-top stand lets a hammock be used just about anywhere. The main reason is sometimes there are no trees – such as in desserts, grassy plains or snowfields. The stand gives adventurers somewhere to hitch their hammock and also provides an elevated view of the surrounding area. The stands attach to car roof bars and each stands holds up to 250 pounds in weight / just over 113 kilos.Inventor Chris Blackthorn said he got the idea after taking his hammock for a drive through the Mojave dessert. He explained it is renowned for beautiful desert vistas but not for an abundance of trees. He added:”Searching the desert, I finally found a withered trunk with just enough tenacity to suspend one end of my hammock while the other hung from my roof rack. “The view of the cloudless, starlit sky was beautiful, even if the location near my lone tree was otherwise less than ideal. “My peaceful solitude was not to last, however, as shortly after dozing off I was awakened by an inquisitive band of coyotes who were persistent enough to return repeatedly throughout the night.“Upon returning home I began to look at roof top tents, hoping to gain some separation above curious wildlife. “The idea of a tent on the warm summer nights didn’t sound much better than my sleeping platform, though.“I decided that some experiments were in order, and began the design and construction of the hammock stand.“I am finally ready to share with everyone the joy that my hammock stand has added to my overland journeys. “Pulling into camp each night, I finally feel an excitement that was previously lacking, and I can't wait to stretch out each night in a spacious hammock. “The rooftop vantage elevates me above my surroundings and I fall asleep to views that I will remember for decades

  • June 6, 2017 - inconnu - A computer algorithm programme has achieved success as a designer to generate millions of unique jars of Nutella hazelnut chocolate spread.Nutella The algorithm pulled from a database of dozens of patterns and colours to create seven million different versions of Nutella's graphic identity, which were used jars in Italy. It meant each one of the designs could be printed one after another on a production lineNutella's manufacturer Ferrero worked with advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather Italia on the project, titled Nutella Unica. The agency describes each Nutella Unica jar as being ''like a piece of art'', stamped with its own unique code so it can be authenticated by collectors. The seven million jars were sold through Italian supermarket and sold out in one month. The agency also created an online and television advertising campaign around the packaging design. An Ogilvy and Mather spokesman said:”We think Nutella can be as special and expressive as every single one of its customers.''With this objective, Nutella Unica was born – the first limited-edition made by seven million different jars.“ Dozens of patterns, thousands of colour combinations, one special algorithm.'' Nutella Unica relied on the brand's highly recognisable lettering, which has meant other elements of the packaging design could be altered or stripped away. # POTS DE NUTELLA PERSONNALISES (Credit Image: © Visual via ZUMA Press)

  • June 6, 2017 - inconnu - Here’s a hybrid helicopter the makers hope will one day be capable of carrying commuters to work –without a pilot. The electric-powered SureFly has been designed to carry two passengers on journeys up to 70 miles / 112 kilometres.Early models will be pilot-operated, but the goal is to introduce future models featuring autonomous flight capable of carrying payloads of up to 400 pounds / 180 kg. The helicopter also features an eight-armed layout, similar to those found in some models of drones. Each of the four propeller arms holds two fixed propellers that rotate in opposite directions, which would allow the helicopter to reach higher speeds and achieve greater efficiency. The propellers will fold down to allow for more easy storage. It will also include a backup battery to drive the electric motors in the event of engine failure and a ballistic parachute that safely brings down the craft if needed.Cincinnati-based US company Workhorse intends to start test flights of the concept vehicle this year and hopes to put it into mass production in late 2019.The expected price is around $200,000 USD / £155,000 GBP / €178,000 Euros price tag.Workhorse says it has reinvented the helicopter from the ground up, 78 years after the first working model took to the skies. The company has already launched a range of electric and hybrid vehicles, including drones, pickup trucks and delivery vans. The SureFly borrows design elements from this existing fleet of vehicles, to create an aircraft that the designers hope will be safer and more stable to fly, as well as being better for the environment.Workhorse believes the agricultural sector, emergency services, city commuters and the military may be among the early adopters of the technology. CO Stepehn Vurns said :”The helicopter has been around for 78 years and is finally being reinvented.“We're excited to unveil the SureFly on the world stage as we believe it represents a major ste

  • June 6, 2017 - inconnu - The sky is the limit for passengers on a new executive private jet – which features a live view of the outside inside the cabin. The Infinito cabin on the new Airbus ACJ319Neo has a ceiling, which can bring a live view of the sky above the aircraft into the cabin – or display other images. This creates an even greater feeling of airiness and space. It can all be done at the touch of a button and make passengers feel there are no walls between them and the sky outside. It was created for Airbus by Italian supercar company Pagani Automomobili. The design uses s state-of-the-art composite materials never seen before in an aircraft, such as CarboTitanium, a mixture of super-strong carbon fibre and titanium.Pagani’s design team created the initial Infinito design, including its look and feel, while Airbus Corporate Jets’ designers contributed their experience in aircraft design and compatibility.A spokesman said curves inspired by nature form a pathway through the cabin, as well as featuring in the shell-shaped valances and walls between zones .This includes one between lounge and conference areas, which switches from opaque to transparent at the touch of a button.Décor is reminiscent of that gracing Pagani cars, with natural soft-leather carpets and a wooden floor contrasting with man-made carbon fibre in furniture and wall-frames.The spokesman said this echoes the combination of art and science “originally espoused by Leonardo da Vinci.”Sculpted metal features, mirroring those found in Pagani cars, feature in light-fittings and other details, while LED lights enable different mood-lighting ambiances.Pagani founder and chief designer Horacio Pagani said:” Applying our Reinassance touch into the wider spaces of Airbus corporate jet cabins is the beginning of an exciting new venture for us.”The aircraft is part of the Airbus’ ACJ320 family which already has the widest and tallest business j

  • June 6, 2017 - Suisse - A new blade from the makers of the Swiss Army Knife is a cut above its rivals – having been made from recycled Nespresso coffee pod capsules. The Pioneer pocket knife by Victorinox has scales on its brown casing made from 24 recycled pods.Although convenient to use, coffee pods like those offered by Nespresso have a huge environmental footprint.Billions end up in landfills each year where they can take anywhere from 150 to 500 years to break down. But Nespresso, which has other recycling schemes around the world, has joined with Victorinox to create a limited-edition knife for 2017 that uses melted down and recast aluminium capsules as the scales on its handle;.The knife’s tools include a blade, can opener, two screwdrivers , bottle opening, wine stripper and a hole punch. It is available from the company’s online store or a few selected stores for around €43 Euros / $48 USD / £37 GBPA Victorinox spokesman said:” Sustainability is an important part of corporate culture at Victorinox as well as at Nespresso. “Both firms have long committed themselves to acting responsibly and so it seemed a natural progression to team up to create a knife which turns recycled Nespresso capsules into a functional tool for your everyday adventures.“Used Nespresso capsules must be melted down and then cast. “We wanted to be absolutely certain that the molten material could stand up to our stringent high quality standards, so we carried out numerous tests in our development laboratory, ensuring that the new material would be stable, durable and fitting all design requirements.“We are proud to say that all of our efforts were fruitful, with both partners delighted with the quality and success of the Pioneer Nespresso knife. “We’re very happy to be writing a bit of Swiss recycling history, together with Nespresso.” # UN COUTEAU SUISSE FAIT AVEC DES CAPSULES NESPRESSO RECYLCEES (Credit Image
