  • August 4, 2017 - New York City, New York, United States of America - A pro-Cuba group called the Venceremos Brigade organized a demonstration at JFK's Termina 4 to protest an upcoming regression in Cuba-US relatons under the Trump Administration. Despite the claims of a travel ''ban'' to Cuba, there remain more than a dozen legal ways to visit Cuba as an American, including using an officially licensed tour operator or for family travel. Activists, however, continue to use and sensationalize the word ''ban''. Furthermore, the enforcement of the travel restrictions are expected to take months to reimplement. Normalization of relations between the two countries began under the Obama Administration in 2015, which included a liberalization of travel rules for tourism from the US to Cuba. The Trump Administration has recently announced that it will enforce not only the tourism ban to Cuba, since it was never technically lifted, but also US companies will be barred from business ventures with the Cuba GAESA, which has links to much of Cuba's tourism industry. • August 4, 2017 - inconnu - Virtual reality fans will be able to visit the red planet Mars in an experience that shows how the first human settlers will cope. The immersive experience was put together using US space agency NASA’s input. The stunningly realistic depiction based on real maps, allows explorers to investigate an accurate replica of 40 square kilometres of the planet’s surface without leaving their armchair. The Mars 2030 virtual reality experience was created by FMS Studios, the digital video and experimentation production unit of multi-platform media company Fusion Media Group in collaboration with NASA.Called “the most realistic mars VR experience to date”, it includes a range of features designed to blur the line between science, engineering and entertainment. Mars 2030 has been accurately mapped and modelled from real mars orbital satellite data. Immersion is the primary focus with graphics and sound created to draw the user into the Martian landscape. To make it even more believable, the experience uses ambisonic audio filtered to match mars’ atmospheric pressure and sounds. A dramatic touch is given by an original score from the London Symphony Orchestra. Customisable touch screens display feedback information on the space suit worn by the VR users and fitted to the Mars Rover vehicle which can be guided over the surface. The suit gives biometric data, life support gauges and more. Mars 2030 users are able to navigate the expansive landscape and collect rock samples while observing the planetary protection zones. Later, they can analyze the findings in the geolab workstation’s VR microscope, revealing the planet’s hidden secrets. The habitat base has been modelled after actual NASA concept designs, and can also be explored.Calling in to report to NASA mission control at Houston and speaking with family members back home on Earth is also possible. Players can also get a first-hand look at many of the technol

  • August 4, 2017 - inconnu - Researchers believed 3D printing food could help the worlds obesity problem – by making healthy eating options easier for children to accept. One of the main benefits of 3D printing is the ability to create any shape. A team fro Italy’s University of Foggia used a range of vegetables, including cauliflower, fish and mushrooms, to create shapes to tempt the fussiest child eaters.Professor Carla Severini, and her team believe vegetables would go down easier if they were in the shape , for example, of an octopus or star.To test this theory, the researchers blended white beans, mushrooms, milk and banana and then 3D printed the mixture. The 3D printed result was an octopus shaped snack with a whole host of nutrients.Prof Severini believes the results say a lot already, but she has more ideas for the future of 3D printed food. She is also investigating printed snacks based on insects, which are very rich in terms of protein but rejected as food by western people. The main benefit of disguising vegetables as fun snacks is to better provide children with nutrients in an acceptable form. The hope that this will help reduce obesity. The results of her research have been published in the Journal of Food Engineering. She said the food had not yet been tried on children because of government red-tape.She explained:” Experiments with people and children in particular need the authorization of Authorities.“However we have planned to do it with the collaboration of researchers of faculty of medicine.”She said the 3D shaped vegetables could be consumed raw, but the conditions of printing are not controlled yet so the food needs to be cooked. She added:” The vegetables used have been carrots, broccoli , rape seed leaves, pears, kiwi fruit and avocado.“The blend should be balanced from a nutritional point of view and with a correct viscosity to become printable.“The formula could change following the needs of cons

  • August 4, 2017 - inconnu - Future electric cars could become more reliable – by harvesting power generated by the wheels. The device would help to give electric cars greater range, a problem which makes many people reluctant to take up the technology.Wheel Battery is an award-winning design that provides rapid charging in emergencies. An auxiliary battery gets charged through the electricity generated by the car’s running wheels. The demand for electric cars has been quickly increasing in recent times. But due to insufficient charging points, electric car drivers face difficulties finding places to recharge their batteries. This creates a certain amount of reluctance in people to switch over to electric cars. On average, an hour’s charge on 220V allows an electric car to drive over 10 kilometres. To recharge a car completely, an electric car user would need at least 10 hours of charging time. As an alternative solution, Wheel Battery , created by students at South Korea’s Hoseo University, has designed an auxiliary battery that can be installed in the wheels. This auxiliary battery functions as an alternative to the car battery when a driver needs to charge the car but no charging points are available. Wheel Battery has been designed so that the user can easily plug in For convenience, the battery status and amount if charge available is also indicated on the exterior of the auxiliary battery. An app would also be able to tell the driver information about the electricity generated. The idea has won a Red Dot design award in Germany. # UNE BATTERIE DE SECOURS POUR VOITURES ELECTRIQUES (Credit Image: © Visual via ZUMA Press)
