  • Oct 30, 2008 - Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand - Cathedral Square is the perfect space for public art. Sitting right at the centre is the bronze statue of John Robert Godley (1814-1861), considered to be the founder of Christchurch and Canterbury Province, New Zealand, although he lived there for only two years. The statue was sculpted by the Englishman Thomas Woolner and unveiled in 1867. It was the first public commemorative statue in New Zealand unveiled to a single person.   • Oct 30, 2008 - Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand - The Sign of the Takahe above Christchurch in the Port Hills suburb of Cashmere is an historic building of national importance. One of a series of rest houses created by conservationist politician Harry Ell built to preserve the natural state of the Port Hills, it was designed with the concept of combining English manors, castles and inns using stone quarried locally, laboriously hand shaped using relatively primitive tools. The Pallet Pavillion  contains more than 3,000 wooden pallets and is designed as a venue for creative projects, such as musical performances, set up in the empty spaces where buildings once stood.
